Even 4chan can trade/coordinate/and have functional outcomes, sure often for evil.

To give a rather notorious example, there's the He Will Not Divide Us flag in 2017, which the 'channers tracked down after only 38 hours, despite Shia LeBouf's attempts to keep the location hidden.

The death penalty of not just you but your whole family if you copy that floppy.

The future media conglomerates want. (okay maybe not the "death penalty" part - dead people don't make money)

Text version just came up - excellent read as usual.

A lot of Yudkowsky’s despair is that his most devoted acolytes heard his warnings “don’t build the AI Torment Nexus, you idiots” and they all went off to start companies building the AI Torment Nexus.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

While we’re talking about what rationalists actually believe, I’d be remiss not to mention one deeply unpleasant thing about the rationalist subculture: they are really, really into race and IQ theories and scientific racism. Overwhelmingly.

Considering the whole thing's deeply fucking steeped in fascism, I'm not shocked.

except they have none of the academic ability of the TESCREAL authors

This has two potential readings, and both of them are funny.

And just a couple paragraphs before that:

Reading HPMOR gave me a sense of crushing second-hand despair that I’ve only previously experienced when finding out things about Chris-Chan. It really is that bad.

(the real cognitohazard was the friends we made along the way)

Found a neat tangent whilst going through that thread:

The single most common disciplinary offense on scpwiki for the past year+ has been people posting AI-generated articles, and it is EXTREMELY rare for any of those cases to involve a work that had been positively received

On a personal note, I expect the Foundation to become a reliable source of post-'22 human-made work for the same reasons I stated Newgrounds would recently:

  • An explicit ban on AI slop, which deters AI bros and allow staff to nuke it on sight

  • A complete lack of an ad system, which prevents content farms from setting up shop

  • Dedicated quality control systems (deletion and rewrite policies, in this case) which prevent slop from gaining a foothold and drowning out human-made work

Not to mention, these discussions partially enabled the rise of technofascism, making Yudkowsky and friends outright complicit in this shit.

Wow Trannyporno really put that depraved woman in her place

That can't be a real username. That fucking can't.

Here's my first shot at it:

"Imagine if the stereotypical high-school nerd became a supervillain."

A piece like this would dovetail nicely with Baldur's deep-dive into AI's link to esoteric fascism. Hope to see it get finished.

  1. following on from 1, it’s kind of funny that the EAs, who you could pattern match to a “high school nerd” stereotype, are intellectually beaten out by an analog of the “jock” stereotype of sports fans: fantasy league participants who understand the concept of “intangibles” that EAs apparently cannot grasp.

On a wider note, it feels the "geek/nerd" moniker's lost a whole lot of cultural cachet since its peak in the mid-'10s. It is a topic Sarah Z has touched on, but I could probably make a full goodpost about it.

Granted, this was back when Musk's public perception was at its most positive - it would take until the Thai cave diver incident in July 2018 before we saw the first hole being blown in Musk's "IRL Tony Stark" image.

Somewhat fittingly, that incident played out on Twitter, whose acquisition by Musk has done plenty to showcase his true colours.
