I found two other things that might do the trick:

https://github.com/jgeumlek/MoltenGamepad

this looks like highly sophisticated gamepad emulation. IDK if you can map mouse and keys to your virtual gamepads easily, but the readme suggest that you definitly can. Looks like some work though.

https://github.com/iosonofabio/virtual_gamepad

this one is a fairly simple python script. I don't know if you're into programming, if it works you only need to change it so it registers mouse input and map that to the virtual controllers stick

I had to drop down to the terminal just to get my Xbox controllers to work properly

So you're trying to connect a device to your PC which is literally made by Linux' biggest opponent in the OS market who does not provide drivers for other platforms so that the driver has to be reverse engineered and then complain that this is a bit hacky?

I also had to drop to the terminal to see what video card driver I had installed and to install the actual one I wanted.

Package management (including gfx drivers) can be done in YaST with GUI.

Device Manager can tell you everything about any device you have connected and allow you to update, uninstall, and rollback device drivers. I know no GUI on Linux has that.

Luckily, linux drivers are provided as kernel modules and there should be no need to update, uninstall or rollback device drivers besides when the manufacturers don't comply to open standards.

Despite all that, terminal is incredibly useful and can get tasks done orders of magnitude faster than the best GUI ever could.

Yeah, thin clients are the way to go, but tgey will draw more than 5-7 Watt under load.

We all know who the arsonists are. They are giving interviews on public broadcasting to Herr Biedermann.

Assuming your goal is to gain knowledge about operating systems

Try arch but without kde, gnome, xfce, lxqt... make your own DE, based on a WM of your choice. That way you'll gain lods of knowledge about how an OS interacts with the user and which applications do what.

After that, you would have to go for LFS or Tannenbaums Modern Operating Systems

There already dumps of all reddit posts, but uploading them to lemmy would be really bad. Tons of karma farmer bs, countless repost of the 100 most prolific memes, so much porn... and i haven't even started with the massive burden that would hit the federation, hundreds of Terrabytes that need to be stored sonewhere...

Basically the entire multiplayer space is locked out.

Not all multiplayer games use this anti cheat techniques (and those might just be working in the near future anyway). CS:Go works perfectly, Rocket League does, Dota 2 does, LoL did at least (I don't know what they're up to these days), 7 days to die does, paradox grand strategy does, Mordhau does, Path of Exile does, and those are only sone of the games I personally can confirm.

And they're not suitable for any normal person because the UX is a dumpster fire.

People who use Photoshop professionally mostly agree, that GIMP is a great app that has just a few drawbacks compared zo photoshop. The UI was a dumpster fire, but they sorted that out. Photo Editing is on par with photoshop, at least with other free plugins. If your UX sucks, maybe it's an error on osi layer 8.

Nobody with normal tv/movie content gives you comparable quality on Linux.

I'm still running 1080p on everything and Netflix delivers 1080p to all my linux boxes. Is there a problem with 4k?

Yes, normal people do need to collaborate. And no, none of the office options on Linux are capable of functional collaboration for normal people, except Google/microsoft through browser nonsense.

Which tools on windows allow easy collaborative office projects other than microsoft or google? Well, other than cryptpad, OnlyOffice, koofr, almost every nextcloud provider, etherpad...
