Oh boy, I'm high and feeling chatty. Bag of wind incoming:

Progressives do want better, but the moderate faction, who don't post on Lemmy, is much larger and they think genocide is keen. If all the progressives unimously said we won't vote for a Democrat that supplies Isreal, it might not have even had an effect on her platform, we'd just get Trump. The moderates have more money and REALLY support genocide.

That said, using the slippery slope of Tea Party all the way to Trump has been an excuse that has now turned the moderate democrats much more conservative. The border is going to be a horror show under her. It's a complex situation and progressives are a smaller (but growing) group. The best thing to do is keep swelling our numbers and voting. We still have to compromise with our liberal Democrat allies, but they still recognize they'd lose without us, so they are throwing progressives a few more bones every year. We are getting more candidates elected in lower positions, where the power to change really lies.

Going from America today to the good kind of socialist state will be gradual and take generations. We have to play ball while being vocal and voting in big numbers. It has to evolve from capitalism, like we see in many other western wealthy countries. Tankies want it now, with violence to take and violence to hold. Families executed en masse to keep power for which they have no mandate. You're really gonna wanna get that public support if you don't want a warlord dictator in charge.

The trans acceptance is nice to hear, but religious leaders melding their position with political leadership is less nice. Clergy should not be allowed to run for public office, no matter what their platform.

No one has ever dealt with people before, it's certainly not something everyone does every day, you are the only one. You clearly have an advantage over every one else. And businesses work exactly like wet wood, it's a flawless analogy.

I wasted so much time speaking with politicians, learning about economics, sociology, law, civics, and history, and all I needed to do was have experiences with people and I'd be a political genius too. I mean here I am, almost 40 years old, having spent my entire working career and off time dealing with people, but that doesn't count. None of it counts but yours.

When I look around now vs years ago and see how deregulation is the cause of for almost all of our modern woes, I am left to agree with you, the solution must be even more delegation. Unmitigated greed by earth's most ruthless people has always heralded a golden age of universal prosperity. Just look at the industrial revolution and the 20s. Children working and dying in factories and mines again is a sign of good things, but society can only succeed if we can sell these kids hard, addictive drugs without legal interference.

Edit: Libertarians aren't hated, they are laughed at. Its the ultimate indicator your political opinions are nonsense, just like your comments in defense of it have demonstrated. It's entirely based on what you think should happen, not was does happen. The advantage of living among people is the strength and prosperity that comes from cooperation and pooled resources. But that's not the opinion the rich people who would enslave you paid good money for you to have.

Inb4 "fool blocked" as a response to your cognitive dissonance.

There's a well established tradition of hand-me-down furniture being put out in alleys in East Vancouver. When you move and have no furniture, you can just tour the alleys and come away with a coffee table and a sofa or a couple of chairs. Did it a few times. You gotta know how to check for bed bugs though.

The origins are disputed, but it has been called Africa for over a thousand years, absolutely.

From the internet: 'The origin of the name “Africa” is greatly disputed by scholars. Most believe it stems from words used by the Phoenicians, Greeks, and Romans. Important words include the Egyptian word Afru-ika, meaning “Motherland”; the Greek word aphrike, meaning “without cold”; and the Latin word aprica, meaning “sunny.”'

Director makes a great film because they want to make a great film. It does so well, Hollywood sees this as a "working formula" and spend millions and millions on market research trying to ensure that they can repeat that working formula again and again. They pass these scripts around to ensure it hits the metrics set out by market research, no one is reading it to see if it is good. Good is subjective, market research is concrete and on paper, connected to profitability.

But movies are art, not fast food. They don't work like Hollywood tries to make them work. Good movies are made by good movie makers. The Golden Age of TV started by the Sopranos ended when they started telling people like Aaron Sorkin and David Simon to change their scripts to meet market research.

I used to love Chipotle but hadn't had it in years. Got a burrito a month ago. It was a like someone tried to make a stew with no flavor, just water, then scooped it into a tortilla. Half of it ended in the trash.

I exclusively browse on mobile and their app sucks. The API changes were the last straw, but I was slowly on the way out the door anyway. The bigger an online community gets, the more it will resemble your average online community. The average online community is a toxic mess. Reddit is so big, even the niche little weirdo run subreddits weren't the same anymore. It looked like reddit but felt like Facebook.

Overlays. Steam, my controller, mouse, headset, discord, my GPU all want overlays going at the same time. It's maddening.
