Seeing her refuse to denounce Putin in the Mehdi Hassan interview sure was something.
I like how her solution to Russia/Ukraine is literally "if everyone else just leaves it will sort of solve itself". That's a direct quote.
Lemmy is still small, and so broad fields like news, tech and politics dominate the feed - and Trump is a pressing enough topic at the moment to have posts about him get a lot of traction. It's the height of an American election year and the threat of Project 2025 has people justifiably anxious.
I recommend cultivating and heavily curating community subscriptions, and sticking to your subscribed feed as your default home page. That way you can almost entirely avoid anything Trump related until you yourself choose to engage with it.
I don't think he's trying to throw the election. I think he's a tired old man struggling as he's faced with a crowd increasingly tired of a schtick he's been running for almost a decade. I've said it before but I think people want new material, and he's too old and set in his ways to reinvent himself. He's tossing out the same old classics, but they're not hitting like they were in 2016, and it vexes him. And this is not the first time it happened, either. I didn't know this, but it was pointed out that after the first hit season ratings of "The Apprentice" quickly plummeted over the years. Trump struggles to keep interest once the novelty value wears off.
On top of that, yes, he is clearly and obviously deteriorating mentally and it's a huge indictment to the media that nobody is giving that the same attention they gave Biden's decline. Even MSNBC (who's openly anti Trump) isn't really focusing enough on his cognitive decline.
There are two potential landmines to hold your breath through. First the DNC needs to go through without a hitch - there's still the potential of it turning into a shit-show and halting the momentum.
Second, the debate needs to be a comprehensive victory for Kamala where she pushes back on Trumps bs through sheer force of personality and doesn't let him bulldoze her as is his wont.
If those two things happen things looks pretty good (barring any unforeseen circumstances like the Comey October Surprise).
I don't know if it's been culled by now in patches, but when I played there were still lines by the narrator talking about the consequences and "if you do this, there's no going back" regarding the brain worms. All lies, it turns out.
I have no clue why they cut it, but having it actually impact your potential choices and your endings would be thematically appropriate and make for fun and difficult gameplay choices, I would have thought.
The lack of consequences for the brain worms - and lack of rewards or even mentions for abstaining! - was part of why Act 3 soured me on the game quite a bit. Come on, not even a silly achievement for not using any Illithid power all playthrough?
I still don't know which is more unbelievable to me - that it happened in the first place or that he's still a toss-up for the presidency despite having pulled that stunt.
For someone whose forte is supposed to be nicknames Kamabla is remarkably weak and sad. Don't know if it's because Kamala is hard to find an angle on or if Trump is getting too old and slow, but one thing is for certain: Meatball Ron this ain't.
I simply don't get it at all. They complain about housing costs, but the republican Governor they voted in has vetoed rent control bills and suggests a "free market approach to housing".
They complain about inflation when in reality the US is doing reasonably well there compared to a lot of places in the world.
Then there is this nugget about Trump:
“He has issues, but who doesn’t have issues in their personal life? He has no fear and he’s not afraid to fight,” said Valdovinos.
Jesse, what the fuck are you talking about? Is this still 2016? He had a term, you know exactly what a Trump presidency will be like. It was widely considered the worst presidential term ever. Stop going by fucking ~vibes~ I swear to God
Seeing as we have seen successful and fairly painless implementations of VAR (such as World Cup 2018) it seems to me the issue is (as always) more a matter of the quality of the referees.
A big one is the .nu domain, which is extremely popular in Sweden (since "nu" means "now" in Swedish).
It's currently controlled by the same large non-profit that controls .se (Internet Foundation in Sweden, IIS), but Niue has been wanting control of it for decades. It's a complicated issue since .nu addresses have become incredibly important to Swedish Internet infrastructure.
Litigation was launched in 2020 but I'm not aware of any news since then.
I really really hope they don't get discouraged. They would have done so much better had it only been on Steam, please Remedy don't change your ways.
Also it should have been GotY last year, fight me.
