They should honestly just sell their spot to Andretti at this point.
Gotta say, choosing Brad Pitt as your catfishing alter ego is impressively ambitious. I know I shouldn't be, but I am still surprised it worked.
OP, why did you editorialise the title? Much like the other commenter I was initially offended on Uematsu's behalf, but after clicking the link I noticed the original headline was:
How Final Fantasy maestro Nobuo Uematsu legitimised video game music
I won the debate, but the only reason I lost was she cheated!
So does Lemmy, to an extent. It doesn't support microblogs directly, but Mastodon users can post to a community by @-ing it and can reply to comments on Lemmy, and we can reply to their replies and posts.
Isn't Harris talking about raising the minimum wage as part of her campaign?
Sync is actually just the best.
Both sides have their benefits, and it's a shame there is no good best-of-both-worlds. I get where you're coming from, I never felt the urge to participate on Reddit because it was so often just shouting into the void and getting buried in hundreds of one-word replies and in-jokes and memes. Here I feel seen, and often feel like my contribution (although mostly just small comments) makes an impact.
At the same time, a huge critical mass of a userbase is completely necessary for niche communities to survive. Maybe not as overwhelmingly massive as Reddit's, but magnitudes larger than Lemmy has right now. Lemmy has a very distinct userbase slant and if you're in the target audience (tech, FOSS, Linux etc) you're probably great here. But even common interests like sports struggle for traction, and true niche stuff has an extremely tough time.
Thank you for the fast hotfix! The crashing issue made me try out some of the other apps again yesterday but I can't make any of them look and feel as nice as Sync.
I don't mind lemmy.world being recommended to newcomers as it's run by an established and reliable admin (so it's unlikely to just disappear), but it might be a good idea to start recommending lemm.ee as an alternative, too.
Their admin is also great, it's also general-purpose, and they are federated with most instances. It would help spread the load a bit, and would shield newcomers from suffering through the frequent attacks .world have been subjected to recently.
I agree overall, though I'm not convinced the threshold has been passed or reached just yet. If this level of growth can be sustained though, it just might.
I wonder if this will be used as a case study for critical mass of social networks in the future. We have Tildes, Squabbles and Lemmy all competing for scraps off Reddits table and so maybe what we'll end up with is a fairly clear ballpark for what kind of active user count is needed to reach the snowballing point.
