I’ve got an ‘07 grand Cherokee that I’ve had for years and years (bought at 94k and it’s right around 150 now) and it may very well be the only Jeep in existence that hasn’t absolutely exploded horrifically.

I agree on the style-side of Hyundai. Reliability-wise I honestly can’t say all that much; my brother’s got a Veloster and that car has broken down on him way too many times, but it’s only one example so to be fair I can’t just base my opinions off of that. But style-wise I think the new cars are trying too hard to look futuristic. And the rear end of the new Santa Fe looks absolutely awful, to be totally frank. But that’s probably gonna buy me some flak; I know a lot of people love what they’ve been doing with their styling recently.

Oh… and don’t buy a Nissan. I had a 2012 Rogue and to be honest I didn’t hate it, but those CVTs are just about the least reliable thing in existence.

For sure! I’m not always the best at responding immediately, but if you’ve got any other questions, feel free to chat me.

The absolute best thing I ever did in regards to figuring out bike maintenance was to buy a really crappy bike and just try to fix it, similar to what you’ve done. I went into it with the attitude of “if I break stuff, that’s fine, it was super cheap and old anyways” and wasn’t imagining I’d actually get a sound bike out of it. I used park tool YouTube videos mostly, and from that bike (and a few others) I learned how to do pretty much everything maintenance-related short of redoing the seals in a mountain bike fork (and that’s likely coming up soon). Wheel truing is tough but absolutely doable - again, but a really cheap bike (marketplace special), take the wheels off and apart, and just try to get them back together - that’ll force you to true them. Park tool again was an awesome resource for that.

I think it’s the caller ID. Should be easy, just have to get my mom to set it first.

A few months ago I watched a single YouTuber play factorio and decided “oh I’ll just hop on a new save & have some fun for an hour” and boom there went a solid 200+ hours over the course of like 3 months… not falling for that one again

You forgot “addicting”

I’ve gotten a nice finish using a boatload of sanding and then either Briwax or stain, but it only really works if you want a pretty light finish at the end. I’m talking up to like 600-1k grit, too. But it does look damn shiny & good when you do it.

Amazing, factorio is the greatest

Bold of you to assume that someone driving a Hummer EV has ever heard of a Van de Graaff generator

Lemmy instance would be cool - my biggest concern there is the whole issue Lemmy had w/ CP a few months ago where one person posts it & of course, due to how the fediverse works, that gets downloaded onto everyone’s servers. Seems like it could be a problem.

Otherwise - I do have quite a load of experience on the hardware-side of things, and do love me a good setup. It was more of “I know I’ll do things with it, I just don’t know exactly what just yet”, and after years of lusting after something like this, I’ve finally got the capital to pull it off. Plus a handful of really good deals I got, of course.
