I don't wear one in my day-to-day, but I'm certainly not going to begrudge somebody for wearing one, and you can be sure I'm gonna have em around for flu season, COVID or no.
The problem is masks got politicized by assholes that want to be contrarian for the sake of preserving their paradigm, their worldview.
These are people so mentally weak and reliant on the lifestyle they've grown accustomed to that when something like a plague comes around, it shifts their paradigm so fuckin' hard that they have to tell themselves the science is wrong and everybody is going to be fine. I suppose the other part of it is treating your national politics like a fuckin' football game, but that doesn't even warrant discussing because it's so goddamn obvious and pervasive.
Now imagine, as a hypothetical scenario, the government tells us aliens are real one day, and they're here. Watch these people really lose it. Wouldn't know whether to shit or go blind.
Edit: As for the people that are just genuinely tired of hearing about it, be it on here, Reddit, or else where... Pull the fucking plug and let everything go for a bit. Decompress. You don't have to be online and connected to everything every minute of your boredom or free time.
There's no lockdown anymore. Go touch grass.

So just make sure you have N95s handy. There's no reason to panic, but just be prepared if a new strain takes off over the flu season.
I don't understand why the comments are so contentious.

Somebody else pointed out MintPress is tankie bullshit.
These scum are everywhere on lemmy.ml, I swear.

I think, with 700k concurrent players, we need to recognize cRPGs may not be as niche as we previously thought. However, your point stands: this isn't going to hurt anyone's revenue from MTX.

So far, every article I've seen about Baldur's Gate 3's effect on the gaming industry has been horse shit. Other studios and publishers are not "panicking," they're not going to rethink microtransactions, and they're not going to be daunted by this release; some devs have said as much already along the lines of "Yeah don't expect this breadth and scope from us going forward, because it doesn't work for our games."
This game is not the industry-spanning "gotcha" these writers have been trying to make it out to be. AAA devs or publishers are going to continue their nonsense because people will continue to buy their shit anyway, and they know it.
All that said, BG3 is the best game I've played in a number of years and hands-down the best cRPG I've ever played. It smokes Divinity, Icewind Dale, the previous BG games, NWN, etc. So if any studios do happen to have a positive takeaway from this, maybe we'll see at least some of that polish in games down the line.

Well, whatever it's going to do, I'm sure it'll be fucking weird and convoluted as usual.

Can you elaborate further on this? It's not a take I'm familiar with when it comes to Kojima.

Is this bait?

I assume, considering this is the fediverse, that by "technical" you mean IT-related, Silicon Valley type fields.
While I grew up on computers and know my way around them, and have a bachelor's degree in biochem, I'm an Operating Engineer.
That's the proper title of "union guy that runs heavy construction equipment." Mostly, I help build or resurface roads.
I'm one of the guys y'all get irritated with when your local highway is restricted to one lane by a work enclosure, but are thankful for when your new road rides nice.
It pays really well though, so there's that. And it is actually very technical, but in a materials/engineering sense.

Well, they're going to have to try a lot harder to convince me. In fact I don't think it's possible for me to see Denuvo as anything but malware.

Backface culling provides efficiency and performance. Blockchains provide nothing that can't already be done through more efficient means. There is literally no viable use case for blockchain or NFTs in video games, which is exactly why every implementation has righteously failed or never got off the ground to begin with.
