Hey, I'm posting this via lem.el! I've been using it for a few months now.
Could still use some work, but far better than using a Web Browser.

I'm really disappointed by how bloated the lemmy frontend has become. Like, if they just cut the hyperlink preview/embed features that nobody needs it would already be a good bit lighter. There used to be an alternate lemmy frontend that emulated being a phpbb forum that was unfortunately abandoned: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmyBB

Also there is lem.el for emacs which works but it's kinda basic and rough around the edges.

Honestly, if I was in charge of lemmy it would look basically like the site linked in the OP. And I'd also think about making it accessible from gopher/gemini.

Exactly. All modern CPUs are so standardized that there is little reason to store all the data in ASCII text. It's so much faster and less complicated to just keep the raw binary on disk.

NVK doesn't support older cards though last time I checked. Pretty funny how I ended up with a stack of paperweights because NVidia dropped support and Nouveau/NVK can't get their shit together and instead of focusing on existing hardware they rather keep chasing the "latest and greatest".

AI? Look, I helped a friend fix a new install. It wasn’t Linux fault, it was a setting in the bios that needed to be changed. But the AI had them trying all sorts of things that were unrelated, and was never going to help. Use with a grain of salt.

I have the same experience but sometimes it was even worse; Sometimes the AI would confidently recommend doing things that might lead to breakage. Personally I recommend against using AI to learn Linux. It's just not worth it and will only give new users a false impression of how things work on Linux. People are much better off reading documentation (actual documentation, not SEO slop on random websites) or asking for help in forums.

I can recommend WindowMaker. It's a simple Window Manager that can just be started via .xinitrc.

I too enjoy Turbo Overkill a lot but I'm only maybe halfway through. :/ I stopped playing because for some reason I started getting this weird sound bug where all audio cuts out for 5 - 10 seconds and then comes back and is fine for like a minute until it cuts out again. I've tried everything. No matter what I do it just keeps happening and it only tends to happen on the Windows version of Unity games in general I've noticed. I've combed the web for answers but only found a couple people with a similar problem with no answers, or answers that don't work for me.

If only they released a Linux native version. Linux native Unity games are completely fine.

It's just amazing to find an interesting project with no docs and a small README that contains the words "Join our Discord". Even better when they also have a website that they don't fucking utilize.

I've been playing through Augustus/Casar III off and on. I'm currently stuck on Procurator. I like a lot of genres, but my absolute favorites have to be RPG and RTS City Builder. But only the ones that are more complex, where the player has to manage the economy, plan production lines, allocate labor, etc..

I don't really care about AAA games (anymore) but whenever I feel like it I'll watch TGA out of curiosity and because I find the cringe funny.

Not really anticipating anything in particular for the next year. If somehow the new FNaF game turns out to be decent I might get that, but judging from my personal experience with anything post FNaF6 I don't have any hopes or expectations. EDIT: I've been hearing some rumors online that apparently new Half-Life game is in development. If true, I'm really looking forward to that.

Whenever I used macOS I felt very restricted, like as if I had to do real work but all I had in front of me was a toolbox full of plastic toys meant for children. It was NOTHING like GNOME, despite what many like to parrot. Compared to macOS, GNOME on Linux or BSD is SO much better in terms of workflow.

Can't wait to see all the tech bros training their LLMs on superior western ~~Tube-~~ Intel/ARM-based computers while claiming that chinese RISC-V/LoongArch systems are worse because backdoors and communist spies.

Kepler cards work "OK" with nouveau. What sucks is that reclocking has to be done manually, video decoding/encoding requires firmware blobs and OpenGL support tends to be meh. Overall it's an unstable experience. I have a stack of Kepler based cards that would still be usable if Linux/mesa had a decent driver.
