If you want to stay on lemmy.world, you can. As you can see in the comments, everyones username is @username@instance.name, you can follow communities from any lemmy instance and people from any instance can comment.
As for picking an instance, i'd avoid beehaw.org, hexbear.net, lemmygrad.ml and lemmy.ml.
Lemmy.world is frowned upon because its too big, so it has some performance issues and moderation issues.

I don't get why people keep saying this, anyone can host a pds which stores your posts, and a lot of people have done this. Some people are hosting relays (with just bsky.social blacklisted so they don't go bankrupt paying for storage). https://alice.bsky.sh/post/3laega7icmi2q
While you can critisise its decentralisation, it is still in development. There is an effort (https://freeourfeeds.com/, cory doctorow supports it) to host atproto infrastructure outside of bsky's control.
