As a coding noob mostly c#, my guess is there's some functions or similar in C++ that are potentially "dangerous" in some way but commonly used?

Look I don't have time to point by point give my takes, however I find it very funny when volatility and scamming are brought up as if that's not rampant in literally every economic system.

I also don't see how a transparent ledger with programming to ensure payments complete as expected is more risky then the opaque banking system also running nearly entirely online just behind closed doors in banks is any better.

Haven't we already learned security through obscurity is not actually security?

I will say, the corporate/banking takeover of BTC happened over a decade ago now, so agree with you there, which is why it's now "digital gold" instead of its original stated intent of digital cash.

The point of crypto is it is controlled via programmed rules, depending on the type, which in theory would make it more fair if coded properly.

Replace crypto with cash and all those things are true, and yet...

I did a report on this in 5th grade, people thought I was making it up.

I work at a rather large financial corporation, I heard about a "town hall" in another state where one of the questions asked of the CEO was "how do you sleep at night"

Legendary.

What I found more interesting was how many of my coworkers condemned them. I was all about it.

"they're not doing the traditional things anymore now that they see there's a whole world of people with different traditions and situations" I get theres people who want to keep traditions alive because they're traditions but also... What is really the point?

Idk I'm a traditionless heathen

Emojis and Lemmy (sh.itjust.works)

Does anyone else think having emojis as a response to a comment/thread would be a neat addition instead of only upvote/downvote?

Reddit seemed to sorta do that with awards but thats not quite what I'm suggesting.

Something similar to GitHub for instance, except we keep the upvote downvote system as-is.

This would hopefully discourage the use of upvote/downvote as a "I like/dislike this" button while also adding the ability to more accurately express the emotion the post/comment illicited

Additionally, there are a lot of people who are mostly just lurkers and have no desire to post, but they want to be able to emote further then just a upvote/downvote but DON'T want to actually post a comment like "I love this" or "You're so right" or even just commenting an emoji, because making a comment is a whole extra action that makes them visible, opens up to comments or upvotes/downvotes.
