My depression. And I'm mid 30s now and my parents are in the 60s. I do not look forward to what will inevitably happen...

Fortunately I got professional help and haven't been majorly depressed in years. I didn't do hard drugs or fell into alcoholism back then. On a different timeline with different group of acquaintances I can see myself dead OD. Or jumping. Or bled out. Instead a lot of money and debt accrued coping with material junk and parasocialism. I can't deny the parasocialism is really the anchor that kept me long enough to get therapy and medication. Now I understand the dangers of it but still.

I am eternally grateful that my government has some semblance of functionality to at least have subsidized healthcare for mental healthcare (and a lot of other health issues).

Of course I'm not fully out of the woods. Nobody with depression truly does I think. It's always there, bubbling. Now I'm always alert to how my friends, family are of signs of depression. But what worked for me doesn't always will work for others, so on that aspect I struggle. But at the very least I will lend my attention and shoulders.

A draft of a draft of a plan that I just thought of right now.

I might just have to carry two phones lol. One is a small cheap phone just for all those pesky financial and governmental apps, and one main phone with graphene.

My fedi client of choice (Summit) is not opening that link somehow. Regardless, I'll check it out on desktop later for potential home of my nsfw alt lol

I saw GParted on the CachyOS ISO. I'm sure it's on other distro's ISO. I can give that a look.

Thank you for replying.

1: for general computing, like storing your photos, documents, etc, just fine. I wouldn’t store a database or run programs from it.

Noted. I won't be running any self-hosting or installing programs on it. It's almost full with photos, docs and videos as is. I'll have to see if I can get a deal on storage to back up the files and reformat it down the line. Someone suggested to do partition magic and honestly I'm afraid to do it haha.

2: always, even if not distro hopping. You can use a volume aware filesystem like Btrfs and have @ mounted on / and @home mounted on /home, so you don’t have to pre allocate space for one or another. Many distros will detect this setup and smartly use snapshots to revert upgrades without touching your home dir.

Interesting thing I saw yesterday when I "test run" to install Fedora KDE Plasma on a USB stick. I didn't go through with it, but I noticed that the installer suggest to partition my drive as such:

sdc1 - format as efi - /boot/efi
sdc2 - format as efi - /boot
sdc3 - format as btrfs subvolume - /
sdc4 - format as btrfs subvolume - /home

Is that a good default? on the page that ask whether to install fedora side by side another OS, full wipe, or manual partition, I noticed that whatever drive I want to use it already have to be non Windows friendly. In my case, my nvme is in NTFS naturally, my HDD is in NTFS as well, and my test USB stick is in exfat.

(I copied this on my main post as well for others finding this post later)

Yeah the NTFS drive is a real road block when I have hyped myself up to change to linux for good on my PC. Everything I'm willing to wipe from my C: drive (the NVMe OS drive) I have backed up to the NTFS drive and my portable SSD, but I don't really want to work out of that portable SSD in the long term. Edit: nor that I can work out of that portable SSD in any serious capacity because I checked and it's only 500GB.

Bitwarden does this out of the box.

Just adding if someone reading wants to use passphrase generation that's built in.

I remember hear8ng during the development of the first steam controller, valve have put in a trackball emulator or behavior (whatever it's called. I'm playing my "English is my second language" card) for the track pads.

I assume they didn't abandon that and did put it as a configuration for the steam deck, and again still assuming, for the new controller.

If I'm wrong I'm happy to be politely corrected.

Also, hello fellow trackball companion 👋🏾

I've long had this problem of tracking the multiple manga (and anime) that I've been interested in since the 2010s. Back then there was this one reader site called onemanga and I had all my eggs on that. as usual it had to go down somehow (in their case, money) and that scared me into using MyAnimeList (MAL) and mangaupdates (MU) to track everything. On top of that now I add kitsu.io and anilist now.

I think if you're going to move manually one by one from kotatsu and mihon, might as well add a couple extra steps to those sites to help track as well. I'll admit though in terms of esoteric items, kitsu is the least, followed by anilist, MAL then MU as the highest chance to include weird stuff. I have to redo my MU list since I somehow got my old account deleted and who knows what weird manga I've tracked that got lost.

Good points in your rambling about free hand. The loud online diehards put me in choice paralysis on what stones I want to get. I have a few cheap kitchen and pocket knives I can learn from.

I'd ask for recommendations but I'm assuming me and you have the Pacific ocean separating us.

I always loved the clips I saw of Ao when it pops up in my feed. So sad that there wasn't even a stream to say goodbye to her fans.

I wish her the best especially for her health.

Oh I've seen that described years ago in reddit. It surprised me back then but when I think about it, all my adult life I'll do that, by now, instinctively.

I think I also saw to break down e.g. 7+8 into 5+2+5+3.
