Yes, I decided to host my own Pixelfed instance and I needed a URL. Still working out the kinks. Apparently, replying to a comment from a Lemmy user doesn't work properly.

No tulip trees, just a bunch of maples, a few oaks, and one black walnut. There's about 1/6 of an acre behind us in the photo with a cemetery beyond that. Plenty of space for the kiddo to romp around and the critters love it too.

AntennaPod is pretty great. Apparently it's compatible with a synchronizing service called gpodder, which I believe you can run yourself.

Ugh I've never encountered a black widow, but I just felt that sentence.

Because living people who are sick might need those organs, which would otherwise just go to waste in your corpse. Also, it good to have a steady supply of organs from the deceased in order to avoid perverse and exploitative market situations.

Oh that sounds fascinating. I'll have to search for that.

Any idea if these are native?

It was just easier to get Pixelfed up and running compared to Lemmy. I'm using Yunohost, which has applications for both, but the one for Lemmy isn't working properly (uploading images is broken, for example). In order to install a fully functional version, I have have to go through this whole process of setting up Docker, which I haven't figured out yet. The Yunohost application for Pixelfed almost just works. I had to do some klugey stuff, but nothing major. I'll get Lemmy running eventually, but this was just a small win for me.

What software do you use to control it?

[-] Kurt@lemmy.one 2 points 1 year ago

Ubuntu 22.10

I have the Withings and it works well as a digital scale. However, I think it's body composition measurements/calculations are bogus. It thinks I have a 3.8% bone mass, which would be 6.7 lbs. That's right it thinks I'm some kind of bird cryptid.

God I would love to mess with a celebrity in front of my kid when she's old enough to be embarrassed.

Complaining (lemmy.one)

How do you all deal with complaining? Usually, I try to fix the problem, if there really is one, or deflect with humor. However, sometimes the complaining comes from all directions—my kid, my wife, my parents, my bosses, customers—and it wears me down. I find that pushing back can sometimes be counterproductive with some complainers.

One time my wife had some complaint about how I mow the lawn. I asked her if she ever mowed a lawn and she was quiet after that. Unfortunately, these little victories don't happen very often. What sorts of tricks or tactics should I have ready to get people to pound sand without telling them to pound sand?

No injuries and we even had a couple of good runs where I wasn't holding on. A few more weekends and I think we've got this.

Here are some more pictures:

I originally posted this in the woodworking subreddit. It's my first real woodworking project. Here's the description I included with that post:

I am happy to report that so far I have not regretted bringing home that radial arm saw a few months ago. I used it to successfully build a small, adjustable bookshelf for my sister's baby shower.

I made it from 3/4" Europly with maple veneer and finished it with Odie's Oil. I glued all the joints with Titebond III. The back is 1/8" hardboard to which I applied a cool looking adhesive backed wallpaper.

I didn't have a dado stack, so I got a little creative with the joints for the legs. I think it worked out because the plys are continuous the same way they are around the mitered corners.

Not sure what my next project will be, but I'm looking forward to doing something soon. My family was really impressed, so this effort felt really rewarding.

Oh wow what did lemmygrad.ml do?

Is there a way to shop around for a Lemmy instance based on how many instances are blocking it and how many instances it's blocking? For example, I noticed that the lemmygrad.ml instance is relatively popular, but it seems like a lot of other instances block it. It also blocks a bunch of other instances. So, if there are any communities on there that might be relevant to me then I would be missing out. I guess I could just create an account on a walled instance, but I would prefer not to keep creating accounts. I'd like to just find one instance that maximizes my access. Is the answer to just run my own instance?
