Because the average person is stupid and will pay $4 for fucking water because it looks like an energy drink.

The best part is that their previous sand dune was removed by storms and high tides in 2022, so their solution was to build another sand dune, which took a year, and was immediately removed by storms and high tides.

You can't make this shit up.

Someone else touched on it but mobile home parks can actually be very exploitative because the home isn't actually mobile, it can generally never be moved again, but the owner has no claim to the land. So it's all the downsides of owning a home AND renting with literally none of the upsides. The home doesn't appreciate, and you have no control over your future payment, and can even be evicted from your home that you own outright. Without some change there, they are not a solution.

To your point though, building housing developments organized like mobile homes could be viable, however if you're going to use up that much land you really should also build vertically to make the most of it. But then you get into the same issues we have now, building up costs a lot more, no longer stays affordable, etc.

I've been telling people this since somewhere around 2014/2015 when I read the third book. The first two books were well thought out, the plot moved, the exposition had purpose and was driving toward something. While I was about 2/3 of the way through the book I realized that it felt like GRRM had changed his mind about what he wanted to do with the story. The book no longer seemed focused on a destination, it seemed focused on moving characters around so that he could make something different work instead. But doing that new thing meant killing off 75% of the characters he'd spent two books developing, so he had to replace them with new ones, who were less developed, kind of cardboard cutouts of the previous ones. But now these new characters stories needed to be fleshed out so he could make their involvement make sense. In doing that he realized he couldn't slot them in to accomplish the goals he needed to complete the story. So he kept expanding the web, expanding the universe, but never really having a plan or path in place to make it all come back together. And that's where he's been for over a decade.

He hasn't finished the books because he doesn't know how to at this point. He can't get everything tied together, he can't go back to the story he wanted to tell because he killed off pieces necessary to make it happen, and the replacements didn't fit where he needed them to.

They're choosing not to drive for the same reason they're choosing to be more thrifty, choosing not to go to college, choosing to live with their parents longer, and choosing not to buy homes. See if you can find the common denominator.

Pretty sure it's easier to find a phone with a mini SD slot than a phone with a CD player.

About a week ago you decided to make your lemmy account. A better idea would've been to learn how to fucking read.

Call the spot, order it, and go get the food your fuckin self. Stop spending an extra 35% to have somebody working three jobs get it for you.

A lot of these are kinda on the negative side (no judgement!), so I'll add a positive one. I met this girl, we started dating and we had been in that weird phase where like it wasn't exclusive but it felt like it was but it wasn't explicitly said you know? Anyways, I had these plans to go on a trip with a couple friends and some friends of friends and that same week me and the girl talked and decided it was official, nobody is dating anyone else, we're together/a thing/official.

Fast forward to that trip, and I meet this girl, I know nothing about her but she's cute and she's into me. We all get drunk around a camp fire, me and this girl go for a walk, and it's about as obvious as it's ever going to be this girl wants to hook up and I have the green light and I'm about to go for it. So I'm about to and then I remember...I shouldn't. I'm not single anymore. It doesn't matter if it's new it matters to me, I really like the girl I'm dating, we have a good thing going and it's dumb to risk fucking that up for some girl I just met. So I don't. I say I'm sorry I'm drunk and should go to bed and that's the end of that. We were cordial the rest of the weekend and I've never talked to or seen her again.

It's eight years later and that girl i liked is my wife of close to four years and we're just hanging out being boring together and I've never been happier.
