I like the way we handle it in German, where Klassische Altertumswissenschaft is the study of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome as pioneered by Friedrich August Wolf in the 1700s, and Altertumswissenschaft is used for the more broad study of antiquity.

Not officially, but Marko has repeatedly said that Lawson will sit in a Red Bull-owned F1 car next year.

There is a reason why Schumacher isn't getting a seat and it is that teams believe they have seen his ceiling of potential.

With Kimi they assume that he has a high potential even if he isn't there yet. Now, you could assume the same about Drugovich – in his case there must be something else why he is considered uninteresting

I think Merc learned their lesson about putting juniors into Williams when Williams blocked Russell from going to Merc in 2020

This seems super risky btw. Colapinto's first few races after Monza will be Baku and Singapore. Not exactly tracks where you want a rookie to start his F1 career. Lawson was super impressive there, but is that reproducible?

And Colapinto's junior career isn't really more impressive than Logan's..

(Also, different issue: argentinian fans coming newly into F1 could be ugly given what we have seen in recent years.)

Well since all major lemmy instances seem to hide mod names in their logs, we don't know who the banning mods are.

Lemmy.ml also has the funny quirk that it doesnt have a proper legal imprint or team list afaik. So we don't have actual transparent information on who is on that instances admin team and who is not. Iirc only one of dessalines and nutomic is on that admin team anymore.

Dutch and british tabloids are now reporting that one factor in Horner losing support could be due to a power struggle between Horner and Marko, which has been brewing behind scenes ever since Mateschitz' death. Apparently Horner wanted to push Marko out of the team at the end of 2024 when Marko's contract runs out.

I mean, it has been this way since the 1980s.. but nowadays it's often "Company 1 Company 2 Company 3" instead of "Sponsor Team". And stupid sponsorship names that are very long dont help either

“Can I start with just something from my side?” Steiner began as he settled into a conversation with Sky Sports F1’s David Croft. “I didn’t have the chance to say thank you to a few people when I left Haas F1. I would just like to thank all the team members which I couldn’t give a proper goodbye [to] when I left.

“It stung [not being able to say goodbye to the team], but they all know me and that I still appreciate what they did. It would be nice to say, ‘Hey guys, thanks for all that you did’, because the team started very small, running on adrenaline a lot of times, and they did a good job. Obviously it doesn’t make you happy not saying thank you, but I think I did it now.”

Steiner then got down to the details of his departure and confirmed that team owner Gene Haas reached out between Christmas and New Year with the bombshell decision.

“It was a phone call,” Steiner stated. “Gene called me and said that he doesn’t want to extend the contract which was up at the end of the season, and that was it. I don’t know [if it was a surprise]. It’s always a little bit of a surprise, but then in the end, he owns the team, he can do what he wants and it’s his decision.

“I think [whether a change was needed] can be answered only in time. I cannot answer that one because otherwise I could say what is happening in the future. Gene thought that is the way he wants to take the team forward and, as I said, it’s his decision, not my one. He owns the place, so if you own something you’ve got the right to do what you want.”

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Formula1.com, Gene Haas made clear that the call to replace Steiner “came down to performance”, with the team slipping to the bottom of the constructors’ standings in 2023 – scoring just 12 points from 22 races – and not placing higher than eighth over the last five seasons. Haas even used the word “embarrassed” given his outfit’s relationship with Ferrari, which has been in place since the very start of their F1 journey and sees them take a host of components – including power units – from the famous Italian manufacturer.

If you look at all the other teams... they are not gearing up now, they started to gear up [already], some two years ago, some three years ago, some last year, so everybody is getting stronger, investing a lot in the future. F1, I think, is on a very good path where it is going at the moment, and that’s what is needed to do to stay competitive.

“I don’t know Gene Haas’s plans for the future. He didn’t share them with me – and he doesn’t have to, by the way! I want to make that one clear as well; I’m actually not really interested in that anymore. The model we started in the beginning, I think it was a very good model, but maybe it’s not time relevant anymore. But who am I to say that?”

Name changes for Aston Martin, Alfa Romeo/Stake Sauber and AlphaTauri compared to the 2023 season.

Aston Martin drops Cognizant from the team name, Sauber has a completely new team and chassis name, AlphaTauri adds "RB" to the team name and has a new chassis name.

The relevant point here is that it would be an odd thing for an F1 team principal to be concerned about. Because FOM and the teams are almost perfectly aligned; so close it’s almost impossible to see the joins. Together they are making way more money than F1 has ever made before and on virtually every matter of consequence they sing from the same hymn sheet.

If it’s bubbling ill-feeling you are looking for, it’s to be found between FOM and the FIA
