Not sure why the lol, I totally agree with this. US democracy has flaws that should be addressed, big ones being gerrymandering, electoral college (which will eventually go away due to NPVIC), and our judicial system.

Recent events have highlighted on a national stage weaknesses that must be fixed. Let's get to work instead of throwing in the towel and allowing fascism to rise.

Pretending like our elections are currently normal as usual is absurd, we literally had a coup attempt for the 2020 election.

Yes, the 2024 election has democracy on the ballot and it isn't even a controversial statement to say so.

You would think that but it isn't always so clear. My college had a sizable chunk, if not a majority, of foreign Chinese students and they were extremely patriotic/nationalist.

But to be fair maybe those who never left China are even more patriotic, I wouldn't know.

By API I think he meant the default API endpoint, not the API specification

It's super fast in comparison to full IDEs and is easier to use than most editors. I switch between vscode and notepad++ depending on what im doing.

I think you're missing the point, those who lose their jobs to automation are somewhat random / due to environmental factors and not up to choice so it's a bit weird suggesting that.

What they are suggesting is politicians will only act once enough people are suffering in the streets. Not necessarily saying it's morally justified, just that's what it takes for governments to take action. Nobody is defending how our politicians are failing us.

It's reasonable for any country to be "anti-china" when they are being targeted like Taiwan is. China speaks constantly of invasion and frequently violates Taiwans airspace for practice runs of an invasion. Spinning it as Taiwans fault is mindless propaganda

there are pros/cons to each brand, plus there are tons of models across each product line. I own many headsets (index, vive original, vive xr elite, oculus dk2, quest 2) and honestly I can't say any one of them is the best as each is unique from the screens (oled VS not), wired/wireless, full body tracking, standalone VS pc, comfort, etc.

That being said, I personally go for the vive over quest as it has more accurate tracking (laser VS camera), full body tracking, better screens (OLED), and works better with steamvr.

Plus as a VRChat user I can use vive advanced controls which is a godsend for expressing yourself in VR, other controllers just don't have as much flexibility in terms of mixing expressions and being able to set intensity levels to each expression ingame.

I've found that level of locked down to be rare, usually portable apps still work. That being said running portable apps is still risky since it's likely against company policy and could be logged by IT.

Obviously not everyone has the same situation and some people are more privileged than others. But there is a huge difference between someone who has to work everyday VS someone who doesn't. That doctor has to go to work, same as the programmer, or the manager. They all have unique lifestyles but they are all workers. They are the proletariat

I work in tech, not Google but I am compensated similarly. The reason you are getting my downvotes is because you're missing the point. We worked our asses off to get where we are only to say we're "not struggling" anymore and have early retirement plans in place because we were thoughtful in our career choices and personal budget. That's a lot different from someone who had a retirement plan set from birth or doesn't need to work for a living.

Ultimately as long as tech workers continue to sell their labor then they are working class.

Working at Google is not what it used to be 20 years ago. Not only would an average CEO be better off but there are plenty of other tech companies better to work at as well. Google engineers are salary workers not much different than any other
