Take care of your teeth. If you get problems, it hurts like a bitch, it can ruin you day, every day for years. It's also expensive as hell. Take care of them, the best that you possibly can.

They had a service I paid for. I paid for youtube without ads. Just that. And then they changed prices and made me pay for something that I did not need, YouTube Music. So I canceled.

They had me as a subscriber, they just wanted more money and lost me.

And I block ads. Not specifically for youtube, but for all sites and apps that I can. I use Blockada and most days the number of blocked tracking cookies goes over 1000. Laat 24 hours it is 3426 trackers blocked. Is it really necessary that I am being tracked that much?

I don't think so, and I am not even talking about malware, or crypto ming scripts that will be loaded as ads. Most ads are not checked properly so I have no idea what malicious bullshit I can get on my systems without even asking for it.

If I find something that I use a lot and adds value, I will donate some money. For example, I support some creators on Patreon.

And ads always do their best to be loud and intrusive. And if I have a guest at my house that is loud and intrusive, they don't get invited back. The same with ads.

Remember when ads were just a small rectangle on youtube? You clicked it away and that is it? That was the way. Serve ads in a normal, non intrusive way and I can handle them just fine.

This remind me of my school. At the time they used some software to block sites. So I searched for the name of that software, and found an executable file with that name plus config.

I executed it, and much to my surprise, I could now configure the filters for the whole school. I tested it by entering the URL of a game my classmates was playing at that moment. It was a very weird sensation to see his game getting closed by the software the moment I added it to the blacklist...

So:

  • I and every other students had read and write acces to the directory where the software was installed.
  • The directory was indexed to make it easier for students to find.
  • There was no extra password or authorization.

I showed a classmate. Told him to not show anybody else. A week later, he added the startpage to the blacklist. As a result, if you opened Internet Explorer, it would close immediately. Obviously, this caused admins to check out what was going on....

It was fixed later, but it was fun while it lasted.

Well, how is the system supposed to know that you want the crack to do something to that executable? The anti virus just sees something is happening and flags it. It does not see a difference.

I understand why you ask this question, but really the fastest way to learn is to decide what you want the computer to do and start looking for that.

One thing will lead to another and you'll learn lots of things that way, while you're immediately using it.

Tutorials and courses can work, but usually it works best if you use whatever you are learning.

So come up with an idea for a program, and start building. There will be mistakes, anger, frustration and cursing involved, but you will learn a lot.

First at the lower level, and later on you will probably start wondering how to structure it all. And then you'll learn about that too.

My point? Just dive in, fall on your face a couple of times and you'll learn a lot in a short time.

A good employer would listen to your complaint. Then talk to the other guy. But he will not get fired over one incident.

It may get added to his personal file. If the list of complaints gets to big, some training may follow.

In my country it is very difficult to fire somebody for something like this. Only after repeated incidents, extra training and multiple chances to improve over a longer period of time would they stand a chance.

That does however require other people to report those incidents. So go ahead and report it because it clearly makes you very uncomfortable and it is very unprofessional from the other guy.

I knew this one, but I enjoy it everytime. Because it's true, we add way too much stuff we don't need, and that page loads instantly and gets the point across. It's perfect.

I would recommend finding something interesting to do, stimulating your mind instead of dulling it.

Challenge yourself, find the spot where you are just a little uncomfortable with what you are doing to stimulate personal growth.

I was installing Ubuntu for the first time on my laptop. My laptop had two hardisks, an SSD with Windows and a drive that I could switch out for a CD-rom drive by hand.

I decided to install Linux on the second drive. So I install, reboot, and Grub loads up...and tells me it cannot find the drive.

I eventually find the command fwsetup, which lets me boot into the BIOS again. Of course I don't know what is going on, zo I just reboot and now it loads my Windows installation on the SSD.

So at least that is intact. I reboot again, and I'm stuck in the Grub bootloader again. The second drive just would not load properly to boot from it. Very annoying. I tried everything I could think of, everything I found on the Internet, it just would not boot the Linux drive.

In the end I just split my SSD and installed Linux next to Windows. I did split the second disk too, so my home directory is on the second disk and now everything works.

However, it's a Toshiba laptop that gave me lots of trouble before with installing Windows before. I have decided that this is how it will run and I'm not messing with it again. The panic when I feel I broke it again is just not worth it.

Isn't that what most printers do anyway? They have one job and they fail at that?

I hate printers :(

It's make or break time. Either she gets into a program to quit and actually quits, or you leave. Even if you love that person.

My experience is that you will be tempted to help them, but by helping you keep enabling their addiction. Not only that, but costs you a lot of energy to do this too. It's not a balanced relation and the abuse will not stop, it will only get worse. It will cost you a lot, and it's much better to take your loss now and leave.

So protect yourself, stand your ground. She either quits completely with your support or she loses you.

Good luck. I have seen some of what an alcohol addiction can do, and I absolutely do not wish it to happen on anyone else, but in particular the victims of the alcoholic.

It's useless and I don't want to use it and never will use it.

I have been looking for ways to turn the channels tab invisible or at least shift it all the way to the right so I have my calls and messages next to each other again.

If they continue the shittification of Whatsapp I may just leave. Especially if Whatsapp is forced to also communicate with other messengers like Signal or Telegram. That would seal the deal for me.

The only reason I even am using a Facebook product is that too much family and friends are using it. As soon as I can get out, I will.
