It's only a problem at the moment because countries are trying to sustain an unsustainable economic model that requires endless growth. It will collapse eventually. Might as well not increase environmental problems as a trade off to make it last a bit longer.

Yeah, I didn't know it was like that before either. Now I think of it as a very informal consulting session.

Personally, they are the same sort of trash ever since I realise I can’t access its content from a web browser and I have to download the app with an account, so from the start.

I could see myself doing that tbh, but for other things. There's always this urge to promote the less well known stuff. It just depends on when you're in the mood to actually type it out.

You sure it's just 5 years ago and not before that? I could have swore his pitiful ego ate out his brain at least a decade ago.

And because WhatsApp isn't popular throughout since there are also regions that almost exclusively use LINE or very heavily adopted Telegram. Not everyone uses Instagram but it's a popular choice for the kind of service it offers all over the world.

Other problems with your post aside, you think it's good enough to emit less but not worth it to actively invest in getting the excess carbons out? The problems they are solving overlap, but they are not the same set of problems.

Been on Reddit for years, honestly never cared for karma. It's just there for me. I barely look at my own or other people's profile page anyway.

I think the best outcome is for Fediverse to succeed at proving the model is better for users than mega corps. Then grow and last long enough until the EU takes notice, such that if any bad actors try to ruin it they'd want to protect it. We're probably talking far into the future, but I think if handled well it can get to that point.

I think it's better this way. It means those toxic bunch won't come here, and when they do we can clown on people (including the Reddit bootlickers) if you still need to vent.
