That is such an incredibly inaccurate and misleading title for what the project is about.
And that justifies using the most primitive and stupid way to solve it? And not even an effective one at that.

Seems like someone can't handle discussion or argument. it is as he said though, if it bothers you that much then don't read it. I've got to wonder why you are so reactive to the idea of changing the name or even a suggestion to do it. What downside is there to this being brought up? What downside is there to changing the name? Because the site is going to reflect it's non-US centric nature which is more in line with its user base?
It happened becasue this community is copied from Reddit. And it was this way on Reddit because Reddit started in the US and was popular in the US first back when it was much smaller. So r/politics being only about US politics made sense then. Here on Lemmy and Kbin even in its early days the user base is hardly just Americans.
Just being decentralised doesn't mean they have anything else in common.

Anyway, let's put that aside and discuss. How is it destructive? If there is a troll harassing a user then is ignoring it better than reporting the troll? How so?

Why should the comment he called the other guy "retard" not be reported? Not only that, the same guy made troll posts sprading misinformation like Trump winning the 2020 election, so it's clear it isn't just a one time thing either. And in the future when there are more bots and troll accounts running around, why would not reporting them be the better option?
A recent report saying the opposite, but with proper data to back it up unlike this poorly thought out personal anecdote.
I still check Reddit for updates on how the protests and the mods over there are doing, but other than that I'm quite comfortable with Kbin, Lemmy and Discord for discussions.
