It has been requested from day one.

Yeah, "go away if you're not happy" is really the lamest answer possible. And he is more like "captain reddit", always freaking out about popularity and subscribers.

I do understand your point. You are case 1: Meta federates with remote instance with no contractual relationship.

Case 1 will never happen because Meta will never allow uncontrolled content over their platform, they will always, always demand that yous sign an agreement before you write anything on their servers. Their lawyers will never allow strangers to publish just like that.

I'm taking about case 2: where Meta federates servers who agree to sign a chart with Meta. A legal framework, which also involves content moderation control, data flow control, etc. And this will cause a big risk of Meta slowly pushing their changes into the protocol. The more servers follow the bigger the danger becomes for everyone.

It's not a knee-jerk reaction, it's a safety precaution against a corporation of which we know the methods. Do you know of a bigger predator to us?

They don't want your friendship, they don't care at all about this open source fediverse thing. We are a risk to their business, nothing else. Other fell before, other will fall after. There is nothing to gain here for us and everything to lose, so block it.

It's not the quality of the moderation which is in question but the embrace-extend-extinguish equation.

I keep getting the feeling you've never actually been under an NDA.

I have.

What are you imagining the worst-case scenario is for what could be discussed?

I don't want to have to imagine, that's the point of the fediverse, everything is in the open, leveled playing field for everyone. If Meta cannot work with this principle then fine, but don't push it on us.

You clearly have globbed on to this idea and NDAs mean something nefarious is going on, and since you apparently can't be reasoned out of that particular conspiracy theory, help me understand what your concern is.

I'm such a horrible person.

Anyway we know better where everyone stands. I'm for signing the fedipact, you're not.

lol, @comedy downvoted me too in frustration. He forgot that he isn't on reddit anymore.

But look at what we lose in the process of screenshooting a post:

  • We cannot write an answer to the OP
  • We have no follow-up of the conversation started by the original post
  • OP cannot edit his screenshot
  • OP cannot answer our discussion
  • OP doesn't even know that his post is discussed elsewhere
  • We have no connection with OP between our instance and his.

In short, we have lost all the advantages of the fediverse, for what? For the graphics, for the white on black background which reminds of Twitter. It's a terrible trade.

That being said, there's been instances (especially with regards to certain politicians on Twitter) where having the screenshot has been paramount, as the original post gets deleted.

Editing what you said is a right. You have the right to change your opinion. It's in fact a virtue. If you see something interesting in the comment, use the ~~symbol~~ and edit your post, and say that you changed your mind.

Link the original post and be done with it. Risk of the original post being deleted, making your post useless.

I like it. If you think you posted by mistake, if there was a misunderstanding or if you fucked up..... well, I think it's a good idea that the fediverse allows you to make things right.

Link a screenshot. You could add the link to the original post in the comments

Forget the screenshots. It's like using binary with git.

Just make it live, use the fediverse as it is supposed to be used and see where it leads us. We'll see how Ernest & Co can make something based on the fediverse which makes the process way more fluent and intuitive.

I discussed in the AMD sub and it's completely filled with consumers. They have no clue about electronics or development. It could be malevolence, but it's becoming harder and harder to discern it from ignorance.

If you deleted your account then they can always restore the content. They won't restore the account but they can restore the posts.

All mods on r/TIHI have been removed

They also suspended all our accounts for 7 days.

Well at least they are focused on the topic of your ex-sub.

There is a high demand for scripts involving the package PRAW.
