Blocklists will become the norm. We cannot manually block everything in /all. It was working for the first few weeks but not anymore.

Take for example the left and the right, both will have their respective blocklists and will publish them extensively. Now publishing your own blocklist will mean that you have a horse in the race.

We have a login, that's all the requirement. We have adopted the platform and we are attracting more users by our numbers. It's all about adoption.

because we’re a just fart in Sahara in comparison, both in numbers of people and in revenue dollars

So was Instagram when it began.

If Ernest sold the platform tomorrow you wouldn't even notice it.

NDA being signed by some admins of the fediverse.

Because activitypub is a buzz word. They will allow access to privileged partners who will sign contracts and legal agreements with them. Certainly not with a bunch of nerds who are here because they hate facebook. he wants us out as much as we want him out.

Can you cite your sources where Meta is forcing people to sign a legal agreement to federate, or are you just going from your gut?

No I cant. I'm going from my gut. GAFAM are all about laws, that's their only weakness. Did they talk about federating with us anywhere?

If they federate then they will host pedo content day one. Any lawyer of Zuck will warn him about that.

Don't believe for a second that everyone wants to federate with everyone. The fediverse will be a collection of federation not wanting to federate with others, naturally. No gafam will ever federate with anyone.

Take language for example, why would a french instance federate with a polish instance?

Federating means keeping focus, you federate with instances with whom you have common interests. If we don't keep focus then we will end up with the reddit problem and the race to popular meme content.

The instances of the fediverse are necessarily smaller than the reddit server, therefore you will have to search for remote communities on specialized servers. Or start your own.

If meditation concerns 0.1% of the population, then you will need 10000 accounts for each 10 meditation members, that would be 40 people on kbin. So you have to search on different instances, and maybe move to a different federation. Your main instance should be located where you live and then you search elsewhere for your niche interests.

And you never paid anything to reddit either, still reddit wants you to spend your attention here.

Microsoft doesn't want to bring traffic to reddit. They have everything to lose when your attention is away from their services. For example you won't bring your friends to them. You won't watch their add while you are on reddit. You don't use a Microsoft platform when you are on reddit.

This is absolutely not a neutral choice for Microsoft: they want you, your attention, your friends and your content on their network. Why do you think they bought Minecraft in the first place? It's because it brings young customers in. Microsoft did not purchase Minecraft for the code (there are minecraft clones everywhere anyway), they bought the community. They want to pump their own numbers, not the competition's. If I remember correctly they also merged the Minecraft accounts with the Microsoft account, isn't it cute?

It's a constant war for your attention time. Your login is the metric, it's everything to them.

It's obvious that private businesses will embrace the fediverse, where they have 100% control over their content, federating with other no-nonsense entities in the business. So they can avoid exactly what is happening to you now.

You know what consumers like me hate? Having to create yet another account on a platform so I can ask a support question. I discussed it there. Once a manufacturer is federated he doesn't have to think about which social platform to create an account on. One fediverse account will open every consumer the door of all the manufacturers who join the fediverse, without the second thought of who is piloting facebook, twiter or reddit.

Facebook tried it by allowing partners to "login with my facebook account". But you still had to put your eggs in the facebook basket. Now you can be your own basket if you are very picky about your online image, like Nintendo for example. Nintendo would have his own instance, it's big enough, reputed enough, without sacrificing anything in term of control.

Something people like you can think about is the mechanism behind the federation system. Who would you federate with, what kind of company, who would you trust, etc...

funfact: /m/interestingasfuck has one post and 2 comments so far. And more than a thousands people waiting for it to do something cool. It's like they are waiting for someone to turn the power button on.

It tells tales about the model of bots feeding reposts to the peanut gallery.

What you say is wrong and people already explained to you why, you did not answer them.

This is not a game. This is real life with real consequences.

Beehaw was right to defederate many instances and so should we. Beehaw is crazy but not that crazy.

Defederate these instances, what are you so afraid of? Some people here are going full throttle on the freedom of blabla, don't listen to them. Ban this stuff, do you really want Kbin to be known as "this network"? Do you want this reputation? I don't. If you want more then register to another instance which accepts this stuff but don't drag all our infrastructure with you.

Federating this content puts the servers of Ernest in danger.

edit: downvote me more, I take it as a badge of honor because I know who it's coming from.
