Yeah Reddit dying would be a very bad thing. I do not like the actions of its CEO but the content is extremely helpful. There is so much knowledge archived on Reddit.

And about the API Pricing I'd argue it would be very similar to YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, Netflix, ...
If a user pays monthly for premium, the company will get more money than it would get from that user relying on ads. And running an API costs you nothing extra since you need one anyway, when you want to have any App or website that is written somewhat well.

Ngl I thought you were sarcastic at first but I thank you for the kind of reply you gave. More often than not threads like this get heated very quickly 👍

Yes please. I always try to convert people to Firefox, Brave or at least to Safari whenever I can. Firefox would be the best case though.

I can only repeat what I just commented somewhere else:

I built Swift apps and Mastodon or Discord are NOT a proper format to get help, Discord being crappy for archiving, too.

I have a hard time getting help by people that really know this stuff because Swift is made by Apple, and the Apple bubble tends to stick to Twitter and the likes. If enough migrate, I can finally say frick off, Reddit

For me this is a tricky situation. I really love building Software with SwiftUI but the Apple bubble tends to stick to Twitter and Reddit.

Currently there is not enough critical mass of Swift developers migrating here. A lot of them are on Mastodon, but chats and blogs are super crappy when asking for help (looking at you, Discord!).

I really hope this will change because right now both my projects are on halt because I'm not getting anywhere on Mastodon and I still do my personal Reddit blackout.

I just hope many still stay offline for a longer time to protest. I don't think 2 days will be enough. A but if damage is done but if there will be no 3rd party apps I'm out. I'd pay for Reddit Premium if that would give me a personal API or something
