So plastic is made from oil, right? And oil is made from Dinosaurs. So we're just surrounded by Dinosaurs. Even micro-Dino's.

Is this their revenge?

All our coffee is served with two shots by default. We're not some fancy coffee shop, just a motorway service station that makes coffee to go. We have some regulars who order a decaff with an extra shot. I explain thats going to have three shots total, and they're happy with it.

But I keep thinking, if you have three shots of decaff, isn't that going to be as strong as a normal coffee? Whats the point?

Please forgive my ignorance

This is absolutely true. My former employer (a big box retail company) reduced my pay while I was on holiday. I had been there for years and accrued a bunch of pay rises - but the company got bought out and the new owners thought they could strip me of these because they felt they were temporary and non-contractual.

I got some legal advice that basically said they can't do that sort of thing and had a meeting scheduled with HR. I went in with my notepad, I stayed calm - pleasent even - no angry shouting or slamming tables with fists, I just politely asked them questions and wrote down everything they said, then read their answers back to them to confirm thats what they said. I had about 6 questions prepared and by the 4th they were visibly uncomfortable, it was an amazing feeling making them squirm like that. After I got done asking my questions, I dropped the legal advice I had been given on them and it was obvious the answers they gave supported my case very heavily. They panicked and reversed all there decesion plus I got back-pay.

But if the first thing I had done is charge in making accusations and quoting the law I know nothing constructive would have happened.

See the goal is to bury them in their own words.

Edit: predictably the company went bust the next year. So long Office Outlet!

I have a man cold and taking my usual bowl of chicken soup washed down with a Lemsip Max but now I'm thinking... if the main ingrediant of a Lemsip is paracetamol, why don't I just have a paracetamol? It'd cost alot less.

Whats the point of a Lemsip other than the paracetamol?

Thank you.

Now that you've read this, you now have a cold sorry thats just how this one works.

The Music Critic (lemmy.world)

Hi! I've never played DnD before but I've been invited to a game and I'm looking for some advice for my guy.

I envisioned that in a world with bards, there had to be critics too, right? So this character had a weekly column in some newsletters published from town to town (is that a thing?) and developed a reputation for being a snob. He barely ever hands out a score higher than 6 out of 10.

After unfairly giving a negative review some bards had enough of this and they want to kill him! So our music critic is now on the run from angry bards when he runs into our group of adventurers.

He has no experiance in ever fighting anyone or anything. His parents were bards and he would have been one too but he can't sing or play any instrument (I haven't decided if thats because he's hopelessly bad at it or maybe he's been cursed?) His only real talent seems to be intuitive analysis and articulate critique - skills that have helped him at what he does, until now.

I need help understanding what stats and what class / subclass I should be, or if this is all a terrible idea...

THANK YOU!

Hello Metal Detectors perhaps you can help me: I'm into all sorts of music and I've listened to modern day metal.

What confuses me is that Led Zeppelin has also been described as Metal and Heavy Metal. I listened to Led Zeppelin 4 and it has accoustic folk songs on it.

So I guess my question is when did todays metal start to sound like metal? Is there any connective tissue with Metal in the late '60s / early '70s and now?

My biggest concern is that Memes are the most prevalent content in Lemmy. Its like I'm back on 9gag in the mid-2000s.

....with the James Web Telescope looking for sources of artificial light to identify potential intelligent life, and the news this week of Perseverance searching for microbial life on Mars it feels like we are getting closer to a major discovery. But what - if anything - would it mean for the religions on Earth if life is proven to exist out there?

Oh yeah cats are cute. But then they shed. Nothing is safe. I took my cat home from the vet once, it was a hot day, I rolled the windows down to let the heat out and started driving. Snowy sat inside his basket thing, loving the feeling of the wind blow, meanwhile a blizzard of loose fur filled the car. I should be the one at fault, but somehow it felt like it was his plan all along, revenge for going to the vets. Cats know. They always know...

People don't care about you, only what you can do for them. Thats a deeply cynical point of view but its emblematic of Reddit now.

I am glad to find a new space that promises a better future than the corporatised one of my former haunt.

I wish you all fun and frolics in the new adventure.
