There is a workaround used by Element and Telegram FOSS. They have notifications without using Android's standard notification system.
For example Telegram FOSS and Element use a workaround to avoid using the google tool for this: If you make a permanent notification that is visible in Android's notifications menu, you can make this feature work. It's a bit stupid that there is constantly the Telegram logo and the Element logo visible on the upper bar on my phone's screen, but in the end that doesn't really matter.
How is it a surprise that the Russia has been making gains in the Kursk province? That's been one of the three most important points in making the incursion.
Most importantly, it was needed as an insurance in case that Trump becomes president. It would have been easy for Putin to get Trump into pushing Ukraine into a "ceasefire" where the frontline would turn into a de-facto international border until the Russia is able to restart its invasion. But, if any part of the front runs inside the Russia, it becomes impossible for Putin to accept that. The Kursk incursion turned the very simple and clear-cut deal into one that is difficult to get done. Putin still needs the front to become a border, but he needs to include the exception that Ukraine will hand some of the territory to the Russia, but the Russia won't hand anything to Ukraine. It would have been easy to get Trump to help Putin win if all the front was inside Ukraine. Now it's not.
Then, the second most important reason: even though the Russia is advancing so slowly that the advances have no strategical significance, it is still advancing all the same. And when advancing, the Russia razes all encountered towns to rubble. All the advances the Russia has made in its Kursk province have been away from advancing in Ukraine. It has saved thousands of Ukrainians from suffering that the Russia has been razing its own villages, not Ukraine's villages. And, we've observed that the Russia is much less violent regarding its own villages than with Ukrainian villages. This means, it attacks less with artillery and more with troops. And since Ukraine is primarily not trying to gain/retain land, but destroy as many Russian soldiers and destroy as much of Russia's equipment as possible, this is a wonderful thing. Advancing in Kursk province, the Russia has suffered very much bigger losses than it would have suffered in Ukraine.
And then, the Russia has had to spread its troops more thin. Because the Russia has a bigger problem with availability of troops and equipment than Ukraine does, each extra metre of front causes more difficulty for the Russian armed forces than it causes for those of Ukraine. Even through Ukrainian army has trouble with those as well, the Russia having more problems with the same means that Ukraine gets a relative advantage from making the front longer. The incursion into Russian territory has done that.
As long as Ukraine holds any part of Russian territory anywhere, its campaign for attacking the Russia has been a huge success. Without the Kursk incursion, there would already have been a ceasefire. And that would have meant Ukraine becoming a part of the Russia, sooner or later. Now that won't happen.
Which counter offensives?
I don't consider the concept of national stereotypes offensive per se. What I see as offensive is assuming that a random individual is akin to the national stereotype of their culture. Absolutely nobody is.
If someone considers the whole concept offensive, then that's their problem and won't affect my writing.
Oh, and I did consider it offensive that you assumed I think about stereotypes the way you said. It looks like you based that on a stereotype – assuming that I am alike the stereotypical whatever-you-were-thinking-of.
No national stereotypes apply to every single individual from that nation. They are rather about statistical likelihoods. In the Russia people are much more likely to be lazy and socially reckless and say "I am not political" as if it was something to be proud of. And also, it shows a lot that they even feel safe to say so. In Finland people typically have mindset, where saying "I stay away from political conversations" would be very shameful. People would not feel socially safe saying that here. In the Russia it is not shameful. And that feature is one of the things that make "a Russian mindset" a useful concept for use in conversations. There are other features typical to people living in the Russia and atypical for others, not only this one thing.
Most of politicians at least here in Europe have not started with a lot of money. You first start in communal politics, then when you've shown your skills in that, your party gives you more visibility among the general public. And then you might get to the national parliament, and if you're doing your job well there, you might end up in a position where you become interesting for voting in as a MEP. Or as the president of your country.
You cannot get into the national parliament out of nowhere, but I don't really know why you should. It's a very tough job, and it's good that you've first had to gather some experience from communal politics before that.
Though, this is of course only how it works with leftist and centrist parties. In the right wing parties the system is apparently somewhat different. But that's one of the reasons I wouldn't vote them anyway.
Some earlier GTA could be better for this. I tried driving around for the scenery, but there was so much random violence happening around that my kid got scared. I did manage to explain everything upside down in the end, so no harm done, but it did not feel nice.
GTA3:SA still wouldn't have had that effect, I think(?)
Depends on what's meant here with "GTA". GTA 1 was not really that bad. There's shooting, which is not cool, but it's not very graphic.
Then there's GTA2 where you collect people from the street and turn them into kebab meat with a lot of screaming. And, starting from GTA3, the games start getting seriously.bad fir children.
But, the meme might mean GTA1 or GTA2.
This, of course, doesn't mean that GTA is good for kids. It just means that something else is even worse.
Taaak, dla czego nie :)
