What was your actual experience with the music?
I was involved with the genres he bridged before he released both albums, as both a musician and a listener. I listened to them a lot when they were released, along with the music that was influenced by it after. What 'experience' are you expecting to hear? Not sure how that is in any way relevant.
I'm presuming you do actually GAF because a) you're triggered b) you're replying c) you asked d) you asked again in a follow up comment. Speaking about whether something is overrated or not 20 years after it was released is just silly - since you are too young to remember the context of what was happening in music at the time, your opinion is formed by what has come after. I'm sure you will say the same things for most music which is regarded as classic - Aphex Twin, Goldie, Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, Sex Pistols...etc. They were all special because of what was happening at the time rather than how they compare to everything that came after them.
And yes "opinions on opinions on opinions are utterly meaningless" yet you seem to think yours is more special than any other. The fact that you call it "dark ambient dnb" implies that you know very little about these genres and doesn't give your opinion any weight at all.
Sometimes Ardour. I use a neural amp modeller made by the guitarix dev (can't remember if this is the exact name) along with files from tone3000. LSP plugins, Vital synth, and a bunch of other plugins. I've been looking at opendaw which recently added tone3000 support which is pretty cool but it didn't really replace bitwig for me, interesting tool for collabs though.
