I like what Mike Lynch (famous leader of one of UKs biggest union) said during his Novara media interview.. I'll paraphrase from memory. "Back in the day, your retirement was secured with your job. You'd get a pension from your employer when you get to retirement age. Then Thatcher and Reagan happen.. Now days, there's no security, benefits or high salaries anymore. So people do whatever they need to do to secure their retirement. And if it's buying another property, so be it."

Quick edit: before anyone gets angry. Neither myself or him want this to continue. It's shit and we should fight to bring back dignity to people's careers. But until that's sorted, I think it's ethical to care for your own and your family's survival.

Technically correct, but your comment makes it sound like the military is actively commissioning movies, which is not the case. When Hollywood wants to make historical or war movies, they have few options:

  • Buy the equipment - one military ship or airplane can be more than the whole movie's budget.
  • Prop/CGI - may look bad and doesn't guaranty to be cheaper.
  • Get all the gear for free, loaned out from the military (including training and specialists) - but they get to edit and approve your script.

I wish there were more options for independent and critical movie makers.

Don't think I've seen a bigger oxymoron before... The definition of punk is being anti-authoritarian.

I agree and I don't understand why people like op keep bashing green parties. There's a reason why nuclear is not a viable option. Ignoring the financial burden - Nuclear waste is not a technological issue, but a political one. People don't trust politicians and corporations to keep it safe for multiple millennia. Look at the state of the UK rivers, chronical waste dumping to save money. People who don't think it will happen with nuclear waste are delusional or don't know their history, as we already had nuclear dumping incidents near Australia, Baltic Sea, Mediterranean Sea etc..

Thank you for the reply and I appreciate the graphs. Most of those stats would benefit greatly, and would present a better picture if the units were per person though. I'm actually more impressed with some of the other countries in those images, that managed to achieve some of those things with a fraction of China's population.

Why? What is China doing better in this context?
