I know right! The band didn't start getting political until 1991.

spoilerThe band was founded in 1991.

I'm a former Trump supporter. I will never support Republicans or MAGA ever again after all they've done. So I've aged but I've become more progressive and open minded, not more conservative.

Paywall but basically he declassified stuff if it seemed to benefit Trump and although not mentioned in the article I'd assume hide stuff if it didn't. He also demanded loyalty to the Trump agenda when hiring and showed very clear partisan preferences.

Please call your senators and oppose the nomination of Kash Patel. https://www.senate.gov/senators/senators-contact.htm

Of course we should take Trump's threats seriously. For example one reason for Russia's invasion into Ukraine may have been to distract Russians from domestic issues like repression of their rights and a bad economy. So distractions can have real consequences but we must not forget about the things Trump wants us to forget like his crazy cabinet picks and the fact that he retracted his promise to lower grocery prices and the fact that he's going to possibly create a huge humanitarian crisis if he does a mass deportation.

I really hope this doesn't go through. When granting or revoking a power to/from someone ask yourself this question. How can this be abused if the other side gets it?

[-] WeUnite@lemm.ee 21 points 6 months ago

That's smart! Take advantage of the fact that cable keeps getting more and more expensive and urge them to cancel it. No need to sneak and block Fox News this way.

Note that I don't have a problem with anyone's immigration status except Musk's simply due to hypocrisy because he is railing against immigration when he himself is likely an illegal immigrant. I just think it's funny that conservatives always say that immigrants are ruining the country but they have the wrong people identified as the problem.

In addition to what the article mentioned about H1B visas he also is still set to appoint some terrible people to his cabinet.

It's true. It's sad seeing how many people are still in the cult.

Fox propaganda is playing on TVs 24/7 in airports, gyms, bars, hospitals, nursing homes and even military bases. If you see Murdoch's trash such as Fox or one of his other channels on a public TV ask that they change the channel or change it yourself if you can. It's time to do put a stop to it.

For changing the channel on a TV that you don't have the remote to (ex: public TV or nursing home TV) your smartphone might be able to do it if it has an IR blaster. If your phone doesn't support that there are USB-C dongles you can buy that I believe can do it. Another option is to buy a universal remote. Also for some smart TVs it might be possible to download the app and use that to control the TV.

Also especially if your parents/grandparents are elderly, or have dementia or Alzheimer's consider setting up parental control on their TV to block Fox News and other right wing channels. It's important to protect their health. I'd say this will depend on their situation but I trust that you'll know if this is the right thing to do based on that person's unique situation.

If you work for a hospital or nursing home maybe try advocating for a facility wide ban of Fox News and other right wing channels. I sincerely believe it will improve health outcomes.

Also when the image was made the percentage of scientists who accept climate change was 97%. Now I'm seeing multiple sources say the percentage is 99%. https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1748-9326/ac2966 https://theconversation.com/the-97-climate-consensus-is-over-now-its-well-above-99-and-the-evidence-is-even-stronger-than-that-170370

Exactly! Twitter cost $44 billion but his wealth doubled from $200 billion to $400 billion after becoming President of the United States along with co-president Trump.

[-] WeUnite@lemm.ee 20 points 6 months ago

So basically you're saying nothing changes if they shut down.

[-] WeUnite@lemm.ee 20 points 6 months ago

This is a lie. People just spread this to trick you into not voting so the Republicans win.

[-] WeUnite@lemm.ee 23 points 6 months ago

Good! Let's accelerate this trend. If you have friends or family still using X tell them to delete their account.

That person will likely never change but it doesn't matter. We need to focus most importantly on empowering and mobilizing those who are already against Trump and focusing on those who either don't yet have an opinion on Trump (yes they exist), those who are on the fence about him and make our case. Expand our base.

For people in the don't like Trump category we must teach them how effectively resist him. I think the single most important action is working on building a powerful opposition who will run in local races in 2025 and nationally in 2026. We must work to get as many Democratic votes as possible. Don't sleep on 2025 because depending on where you live there could be judges up for election or election commissioners. It depends on where you live.

It's so weird that conservative talk radio for many years had conspiracies about how the government will violate everyone's rights and now it's happening and they are blind to it or accepting it because they think the person doing it is on their side. Remember the FEMA camps conspiracy theory? Where are those people now?

[-] WeUnite@lemm.ee 17 points 7 months ago

Certainly an interesting statistic but one thing to keep in mind is that Elon Musk has control over the algorithm and he uses it to boost right wing causes. So even if the Twitter has an equal number of users from both sides one side is getting an unfair advantage. Sources: https://cybernews.com/news/x-algorithm-changed-musk-boost-right-wing/ https://www.vanityfair.com/news/story/x-has-disproportionately-pushed-right-wing-content-since-elon-musk-took-over-reports https://www.theverge.com/2024/11/17/24298669/musk-trump-endorsement-x-boosting-republican-posts-july-algorithm-change

The concerns are true but if people leave Twitter for Bluesky it's still an improvement because Elon uses the algorithm to boost far-right content and he has your data.
