That all sounds utterly fascinating, and also cause for me to once again bemoan my utter lack of coordination and balance

I never could get a grip on skateboarding as a kid. Alas

Exactly, no accountability, no citation, no critical analysis, not even basic questions like "How in shit's name would the MOD be able to derive anything like an accurate casualty projection in this situation."

Like I get that articles like these aren't meant for people who tend to actually think about what they're reading, but goddamn, it's just gossamer thin.

Adding to Ukraine’s woes are Russia’s huge advantage in manpower and its willingness to accept staggering losses in return for capturing small objectives

Do we even have reliable casualty numbers for the Russians (i.e. that don't come from Ukrainian reports) or is this just the usual 'Russians have no regard for human life and rely on human wave tactics' trope

Edit:

The offensive has also come at a huge cost to Moscow, with an estimated 70,000 troops lost in two months, according to the U.K. Defense Ministry which posted the projection last month on X

That explains that I guess

I don't really have singular favorites of anything, but if you put a gun in my face and told me to name my favorite movie, it'd probably be Lawrence of Arabia.

It's a pity that this movie gets mentioned whenever the concept of the white savior comes up, because it's the one movie I could point to from this era that has anything like a deconstruction of that concept. I don't know that I'd go so far as to say that it's an anti-imperialist movie, but it's definitely not pro-British empire by any means.

Edit: I completely forgot to mention, for any film nerds that live in southern California, who would like to see this movie in 70mm, look into American Cinematheque. They're a nonprofit that operates three movie theaters in the LA area from the 20s and 30s. They show all sorts of classic movies, mostly on film, and sometimes host talks by stars, directors, and producers as part of screenings. They screen Lawrence in 70mm pretty regularly, and I can't recommend that experience enough.

Which, you know, grand, it's about time these things were made less maddeningly frustrating. But this should be a footnote in a grand restructuring plan of...basically everything, at this point, or we die. That they're pushing this as its own thing, and that this article suggests it as a compelling reason to vote Democrat lest the Republicans kill it in its crib, is beyond insane.

Trust me on this one, you really didn't.

My BOY how is that not better than sleeping on a piece of cardboard on the sidewalk??

Anyhow, what, is every single home in China a flimsy shack? Can you dredge up one single solitary study on what percentage of homes in China are of substandard construction? Can you do any goddamned thing but regurgitate half-remembered unsubstantiated talking points from youtube from lord knows how long ago?

If you can, have it. Give us a source and we'll have a talk about it. Otherwise, shut the FUCK up

If you payed closer attention you'd notice that we have a range of opinions on China, and we don't all think everything they do is correct. That's what the term critical support means. It's a recognition that even socialist states are imperfect, as the nation state as an institution is fundamentally imperfect and will always and everywhere undermine freedom to some degree. But a state which is undergoing the transition to socialism, particularly one that's putting themselves in a position to undermine US imperial hegemony like China is, is well worth supporting, even as we acknowledge its flaws and contradictions.

What none of us will ever tolerate are accusations of genocide with one discredited religious fanatic as the source, or racist insults being hurled at their head of state, both things I've seen numerous times from users from other instances.

And did you at any point ask yourself why they own these things? Why Netflix the corporate entity owns media it did not produce while stiffing the people that did out of just compensation? Or how that information slightly complicates the otherwise simple nature of property and theft?

The only mental gymnast here is you bud. The simple fact is, labor creates value, and Netflix has no part in that. I doubt they even put up any of their own capital in producing these shows.

Which would be nonsense even if the operation hadn't been a debacle. Final reports on US and UK bombing campaigns after the war identified strikes on German transit infrastructure as having had the greatest meaningful impact on their military performance. This was corroborated by the Germans themselves I believe. Strikes on factories of any kind were seen as having only limited efficacy.
