it's that it's not currently inhabited by the society that built it
i've been a bit inconsistent with the theme of this 'sphere - my first plan was specifically this kind of depressing and rain-drenched mediæval hamlet sort of thing
(i.e. the degradation of the architecture and society in general, hence the original name & url),
but then i realised that's probably a bit niche, considering the current population of lemmy so i expanded it to any type of dystopic village or city
but yeah, the idea is just any currently functioning municipality in which you wouldn't want to live; as opposed to /c/wastelands where there may be a society, but it's collapsed and rebuilt itself (i.e. mad max 3). most likely if the buildings were built from scratch for their current function, it fits here, whereas if they're scratch-built from old vehicle carcasses or whatever, they'd fit better in wastelands.
i know i personally have a predilection toward mediæval and victoriana, but i would also welcome cyberpunk dystopiæ; or any sort of ill-repaired buildings or smog-filled overpopulated cities^[or any type of dystopia, but i have no idea how you'd find art depicting a huxleyan dystopia...]
(sorry that was rambly, i literally have no idea how to describe it..)
oh yeah good idea, thank you
little nightmares 1 & 2 are fantastic, i thoroughly recommend them to anyone; and this looks like it takes some influence from 9
greatly looking forward to this
the angle of the photograph is just right, as well - it really highlights the 3d effect
It’s funny, but I tried looking around the old Material Design guidelines and I haven’t come across any mention of swiping to open a drawer. I know it was on Android Developers, but it appears that from the point of view of the design team, it wasn’t really “officially” recommended?
~~i found this: https://web.archive.org/web/20140110123608/developer.android.com/design/patterns/navigation-drawer.html (alternative link in case archive.org is down) - i presume they removed it from the old spec when they introduced the gesture navigation, so people don't use it because it interferes with the gestures?~~
wait never mind i misread this paragraph. i presume it wasn't in the design spec as a) it's an interaction behaviour, not a visual design behaviour, and b) it was also a thing in holo design (& older[?]), so they didn't consider it part of the "material design spec"?
Regardless, Discord, IMO, offers a better implementation for side sheets, as the metaphor isn’t that you drag something from beyond the screen into view, you just drag the view itself to the side and that reveals the side sheet. And it works in the middle of the screen so it doesn’t interfere with the system gestures
it's not a bad idea if you're working around gestures, but it means you can't have something where you swipe between tabs when not from the edge, and get the drawer when from the edge
or, for example, swiping to reply/forward in a messaging app, or upvote/downvote on a lemmy client
(also, subjectively, it's kind of a bit ugly)
actually that is a good point, i didn't think of that
still though, there's no reason not to have the original title in the url. transparency, and all
i love the banner image
The dev will write a github issue with everything described for stage 1 of tags before proceeding to gather opinions. But he will only mention stage 2 and stage 3 of tags and I will have to make issues for stage 2 and 3 myself.
i guess i'll have to keep an eye on the gh then - presumably it'll be on lemmy-ui
I also have this weird sublemmy called “imaginary cities/cityscapes/landscapes” because it’s about cities but cityscapes very often are also portraying a landscape. I can either make “imaginary scapes” (ik this sounds weird lol) and use it for starscapes, landscapes, skyscapes, cloudcapes etc. and have a separate sublemmy for showing inside shots of cities/villages where far away shots of them would be counted as a “scapes” to which will be included in “scapes” sublemmy and not the sublemmy about cities/villages. i, personally, would prefer the former. i don't know which is objectively better, but i was actually considering making a "grungy hamlets" sub.[^stuff like this] although i didn't really know what to call it. so i'd like / will make a "street level views of mediævil/vicorian/cyberpunk distopic towns", but i have no interest in wide grandiose vistas.
i don't really have strong opinions, but that's my thoughts. i wonder if we should make some sort of discussion group with tywele, sebinspace, and remus989 to make co-ordinated decisions?
Oh, I’m only on cinnamon atm because I was having issues with my mounted SSDs not working in steam and valve wouldn’t help unless I was on ubuntu. So here I am.
if you have to use ubuntu but want kde, kubuntu is very good (in my personal opinion, don't use neon).
Are there distros that come without this shit by default?
not to my knowledge, although it's a one-line fix (export GTK_USE_PORTAL=1
)
If I can get a damn virtual machine to install properly I’m going distro hunting. ElementaryOS has been my favorite so far.
good luck. i tried that and couldn't find anything i liked..
i like it. english doesn't have enough pronouns, and we're sorely lacking a distinction between 2nd person singular and plural. i personally prefer "youse", but y'all is good
yeah i honestly thought it was at first; especially with an uncredited artist
