Have been using it since late 90s, stopped using it with the shutdown of SixXs as there still were no viable native options in pretty all my infra locations. Recently started using it again as I finally have an ISP providing proper v6.

You're joking, but quite possibly he'd not even want to buy the one.

The owner family is very reclusive after a kidnapping in the 70s - but we know at least that the founders were living relatively frugal.

Ownership of Aldi is by a handful of "stiftungen" - and one of the more recent judicial squabbles in the family were of one side accusing the other trying to pull more money out of Aldi than necessary to live a non frugal livestyle.

Don't get me wrong - they're billonaires, though probably quite limited liquid assets. But based on their behaviour they have a good chance to survive the revolution.

Screen is another thing - but I can live with that, mostly - it's a bit hard to find x86 notebooks with decent resolution (not talking retina style, just better than "1080p on a 14 inch display"). And while the screen itself is nice on the apples I'd prefer a lower resolution one if I can get a matte screen instead.

But fact is that nobody wants to sell you a proper x86 notebook. It's almost impossible to find something with more than 32GB of RAM, and while there are a few with more than 64GB they're all xeon based monsters larger than 16", as far as I can tell can't really be ordered, and have a price tag equal or larger to a full spec 14" mac book pro. And obviously you can't really think about battery life with intels space heaters.

It's especially sad as current mobile Ryzen CPUs could very well compete with Apples ARM CPUs - the one thing Apple is better at is the absolute low power state, as soon as it has too actually do something the power (and TDP) curve is very close to mobile Ryzen. But pretty much every manufacturer fucks up the thermal design, or gimps it in other ways.

The whole reader series is just such an un-Sony thing, it's almost a miracle it survived as long as it did. You'd never expect Sony to have an easy to use device, without forcing DRM or custom software, utilizing open standards, while also being easily repairable by the user. Or if it existed you'd think it was a fluke, and will be "fixed" in the next iteration.

Instead of rofi I'd recommend using anyrun.

I made a quick plugin to also run stuff from path, and am currently working on a proper ssh plugin for that - extending them is a bit more involved than the simple rofi/wofi scripts, but there's a lot more things an anyrun plugin can do.

Ethernet is awesome. Super fast, doesn't matter how many people are using it,

You wanted to say "Switched Ethernet is awesome". The big problem of Etherpad before that was the large collision domain, which made things miserable with high load. What Ethernet had going for it before that was the low price - which is why you've seen 10base2 setups commonly in homes, while companies often preferred something like Token Ring.

Is this the latest "sneaky" way to insist all phones need headphone jacks?

My current phone has an FM radio, and no headphone jack. It uses the headphones as antenna via the USB-C adapter.

Never used it, though - and rarely used radio in any phone which had that feature before that.

That's roughly what I meant - he should've come out of that experience having learned a lot (there's even an explanation why the other code is better on the mailing list), and had the option of working on a different problem (while he didn't say which I assume it was selected to be more beginner friendly). And instead he's throwing a temper tantrum - that's too risky behaviour for hiring.

Nowadays I'd recommend a simple postfix + dovecot setup. If you care about a web-UI and possibly some groupware functions put SOGo on top.

Both. Some work chats also are still IRC, but unfortunately less than they used to.

I also bridge whatever is possible into IRC via bitlbee. Unfortunately not that useful anymore, but looks like there's now an active project to bridge matrix again, which probably can take over.
