(Jumping from an insult about dietary preferences to an insult about war crimes is not the same magnitude)

The potato joke is a joke about war crimes even if the person telling it doesn't realize this. They actually responded in kind.

This isn't a disagreement. One person is stating something incorrect. You can disagree on opinion, but facts are facts. The person being referred to here isn't asking others to learn Rust, they are just asking for more information about the already existing C code so that they can write their Rust code to interoperate with it. This misunderstanding is exactly why that developer was getting heckled on stage, and is the reason why now one has left the project. I would appreciate it if you didn't make a misunderstanding sound like a valid opinion. Enough damage has already been done.

The annoying thing is I have had people claim that 8GB and 16GB is fine on Apple and works better than on PC laptops. To the point one redditor point blank refused to believe I owned an Apple laptop. I literally had to take a photograph of said laptop and show it to them before they would believe me about the RAM capacity.

This doesn't work as out of a man and woman of the same weight the man will still be stronger on average. Women have a higher body fat percentage, and less muscle in their upper body simply because they have less testosterone. You would probably have to use testosterone as a way of categorizing people in sport. It sucks but there is no other fair way I can see.

I don't think Stalin liberated anyone. His own subordinates were terrified of him, and he murdered his political enemies like Leon Trotsky.

Quite a big one actually, natural language processing is very difficult. It took until the past couple years to solve that one properly. There is a reason only humans have a complex language.

Having the same sound be spelled two different ways is a flaw of the writing system. The spoken word is always the real language in linguistic terms. If the writing system is hard to understand or to use then it's a bad system. Hangul is much better from what I understand, as it always reflects the way something is pronounced.

I was born in 2001. I didn't use a smartphone until I was like 16. We grew up with regular computers too. I also grew up with Windows XP and 7, as well as playing Doom using DosBox. Then again I am a computer science graduate, so maybe not the best example.

Which only works presuming the current system doesn't attempt to undermine or break down the new system. Unfortunately that is almost always what happens and is why things like changing to capitalism required actual revolution in a lot of cases.

I never said genocide is entertaining. It's really not. How did you get from a joke about preferential voting not being in America to genocide? From what I understand of American politics both are potentially genocidal, so I don't even know how much preferential voting would help.

Where I live also doesn't have preferential voting if it makes you feel better.

You didn't read the post at all did you?

It's still a modular, repairable phone. That's objectively different to a regular phone. Not to mention the broad support for ROMs.

I still wouldn't buy one because of the cost, reduced performance, reduced battery life, and worse screen than other phones. It's not worth it even if it's upgradable as it can't be upgraded enough to stay relevant forever anyway unlike a framework where you can plop in a new motherboard.

Yep, installed my first Linus Distro in primary school at about 11 yo. Now I am 23.

In all seriousness while I think FreeBSD and GhostBSD are very cool, and have some interesting server applications they do have some annoying limitations. It's not really their fault either, it sucks being the 4th most common platform/kernel/whatever. The FreeBSD people seem less uptight about working with proprietary software as it's not the same kind of Open Source Linux is because it's not copyleft. So you can use their code wherever even in closed source products. They include things like Nvidia drivers straight in their repos.

As for what makes them different/interesting: Linux is very capable but also kind of over engineered, confusing, and somewhat jank. BSDs are generally more simple. You would think this makes them less capable but aside from software support they often have more useful features. BSDs had Jails before Containers where supported properly on Linux.

BSD is almost what Linux is to Windows: faster, more stable, less annoying, and with a fraction of the users, hardware and software support. It's also a bit more complex to do certain things out of the box - though GhostBSD does give you a GUI and decent installer.

Also BTRFS on Linux feels like this:

Child: "Can we have ZFS?"

Mother: "We have ZFS at home."

ZFS at home: BTRFS

Like it's good that it exists, a lot better than other OSes had for a while, but it just doesn't compare to the stability and performance of the original. There are some areas where it's a bit more flexible and that can be useful, but generally it's just not as good. Pretty much Linux, then Apple, then Microsoft all tried copying ZFS, only worse. Heck it actually came from Sun Microsystems, then got Open Sourced allowing the FreeBSD people among others to port it to their system. Linux now has BCacheFS which might be even better but it's too early to tell.

Sorry for the long response. Thought I would explain some stuff while I am here.
