No idea why we haven't just banned smoking in public yet.

So f**king tired of picking up cigarettes from literally random places. I find cigarettes on my nature strip every time I mow, and I don't even smoke.

And smokers aren't cleaning up after other smokers either. Can't even enter my local iga without smelling cigerette smoke outside the door

I've seen enough cigerettes thrown out of car windows too, and even had someone throw a lot cigarette on my nature strip once whilst I was sitting in my car in my driveway

I don't give a shit if people do it in their own home but it's wild that we allow it at all still

It's funny everyone is suddenly getting banned.

I was on Reddit for at least 10 years. Made a new account, kept arguing against racists

Got banned for racism, obviously by the Nazis. Never got banned in the last 2 decades. And pretty sure none of the racists got banned

But it's no surprise lemmy isn't as big. That's not a bad thing. Reddit is overrun by the same lobbyists and people who have ruined Facebook and made it no longer fun

Truck drivers a month ago "wahhh, diesel is so expensive, we demand the government gives us handouts, we've been struggling for so long and we don't get paid much". I simply compare to EV's, and suddenly apparently diesel ISN'T expensive, and 30mins of your time, is super valuable and costs the company a huge amount. Most truckies return to the depot multiple times in a day (where they could charge). They're not all doing interstate trips..

I'm not sure what decade you're living in either. I used to drive a small toyota hatchback, and 20 years ago it cost more than $30 for 800km. Unless your car is a ride on mower, I doubt it lol

What I find particularly hilarious is the prolific racism amongst Truckies (particularly on facebook), especially those claiming they don't speak english well.. And yet, I've mentioned multiple times how BYD Blade batteries are full enough in 5 mins (actually 97% charge in 10), and apparently you keep missing it. Full charge is NOT important. In fact, in Aviation, you rarely fly with full tanks

60% of China's power capacity at this point are renewables, and even if they're building coal, they're building renewables much faster.. Long term, it's clear they're still phasing out coal.. The power plants are there, but they probably won't be running much in 10-20 years time

So are their renewable installations...

Yeah. That's fair enough.

Both sides have merit. I get both angles tbh

Also, there would be ants everywhere in the vicinity after

No idea why someone downvoted you.

Would prefer lots of independent stores than 3 massive conglomerates

Also, I grew up trying games like Unreal tournament on Linux.

At the time, I thought wine was stupid and would never catch up.

However we're at the point that a lot of games already run better on Linux than windows even via wine.. There are even more opportunities here in the future

Don't compile it in then...

It's literally that simple.. but yeah, it is sync, you are correct

We could debate the advantage and disadvantages of a lot of things in the main kernel. There's so much stuff in there that only benefits certain limited applications, and we could make the argument for userspace for almost everything, including a lot of filesystem drivers

Like it or not, wine and gaming is probably the biggest avenue where Linux is winning on the desktop at the moment (especially thanks to steam). We shouldn't ignore it

I've been using Linux for at least 20+ years now. And seen a lot of stuff come and go.

A lot of distros are shipping with ntsync anyway, and, it's something that will definitely get maintained

Except this is a scheduler issue from my understanding.

You can make the argument to put everything into user space, but it's a performance issue.

One of the growing huge applications of linux these days is gaming, which depends hugely on performance, and almost every gamer out there is likely using wine (generally, without even realising it).

Except the ones that submit AI slop patches to projects without even understanding it or being upfront about it
