I'd say that Scott Adams posting under a pseudonym on Metafilter about how Scott Adams was a certified genius was the most entertaining he's ever been.

The discussion in the comments has continued in a low-key way. Now they're making excuses for why the nutbar is incomprehensible:

To understand why Chris thinks this way, it's important to remember that he had never been acculturated into the norms of the modern intellectual elite...

Langan has been "working" on the CTMU since the 1990s. People have been born since then and have had time to learn how to talk like academics.

I was there for it, but I'm not sure I could explain it.

LessWrongers don't have a sense of a "vaguely plausible normie" that is calibrated in a grounded way (by trying to teach the Intro for Non-Majors courses, trying to explain to relatives and high-school friends what you do for a living, etc.). Instead, they have a concept constructed to set them apart and above. The normie is the ideal rube, the complete inverse of the sophisticate that the LessWronger aspires to be or believes themselves to have become.

Academic prose is not known for its scintillating qualities, but reading meta-analyses and reviews about calorie restriction (for example) is easier than reading a Yud tweet.

⏹️ apparently is indeed the "stop button emoji"; whatever meaning he intended that to have, yours is irresistibly better.

The archive site just keeps throwing CAPTCHAs at me, so I can't read it. Please provide more information about what this is supposed to be, thanks and happy weekend

Wood sorrel is nice. It's like lemon but in leaf form.

My experiences with cops have ranged from the comically absurd to the "I just have to close my eyes and I can still taste the pepper spray", so hey, I'm plenty prepared to be sympathetic with Scott Aa here. But boy did he ever step on that hard.

If the conventional wisdom is correct, Bayesianism is potentially wrong (it’s not part of the Standard Approach to Life), and certainly useless: why try to learn through probability theory when tradition can tell you everything you need to know much faster?

Oh, you say you're a Bayesian? Name all 46,656 varieties.
