The one thibg I'd wish I'd known when moving from google that self-hosting is bliss. For everything else there is tuta and nextcloud.

I love it. But this part on their website has me scratching my head:

"Your purchase includes a 12-month Sailfish OS full license subscription valued at €59.88 (€4.99/month), granting access to all releases, commercial components, and feature upgrades. After the first year, you can choose to continue your subscription and support Sailfish OS development further. Even without renewal, your device will continue to function, but future software updates and commercial component upgrades will not be available."

So does this mean they will be cutting the security updates or just feature updares? Because cutting security updates after a year is a bit of a dick move.

I get that you can always apply patches yourself but ... it rubs me the wrong way.

Errr ... fine. I have a bias. I didnt like fortnite. I grew up playing twitch shooters like quake and UT. The most important things that mattered back then was movement, positioning and ofcourse, aim.

Aim was a huge huge part, back then the input was as analog as it got. Nowadays I feel like raw aim has taken a step back, while still being important, It is not THE diferentiating factor any longer, especially in games like fortnite.

I'm bitter about that because my mechanical skill is still up there even as an older dude, but in todays games everyone runs circles around me, especially in games like fortnite.

I miss the arena shooters, the raw input feel of 1:1 of the analog days. But I guess I'm just another older guy screaming at a cloud.

What the fuck are you on about? Jesus christ, we get ragebait in here too now?

Know your usecases. Thats it. Linux isn't hard if you do.

But no, let me recommend the jet engine service manual to my 6 year old that is learning to read. You're going to have a bad time.

For the record, since this post and most comments irked me, arch is fine. I'm using arch on my workstation/personal rig for years. Fedora on the laptop because I need a stable work thing. Alpine VMs on the homelab because it needs light and stable.

USECASES!

Nah, we were running lots of pvp squads down in null in the tribute/vale region. Was lots of fun. Made some of my best friends during those times, many of which I am still friends with today.

One of them actually helped me shape my current career trajectory. I moved countries with his help.

So many tips, let me add mine.

  • btop - for monitoring and process management
  • pacseek - terminal UI for installing, searching packages (uses yay)
  • chaotic aur - repo for prebuilt binaries that are generally ok

When installing use the archinstall the first time, unless you really want to go into the deep end and use the normal install.

From a "distance" it looked like a black hole. Quite iconic. I get the OCD kf having a cohesive icon set, but ... my 2 cents is that it was easily identifyable.

It is THE most relevant to your problem. I have friends like you, they are miserable but never change anything about themselves to improve their life. I was the same, went to therapy, opened up and untangled the bullshit that was my brain. Takes effort man.

You see the replies don't you? There is more than one person pointing at the problem.

Do it. But please be self-aware and remember that absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Lets not get bogged down in analysis paralysis. Do it, gauge the feedback, adjust, iterate (the beatings will continue until morale improves).
