The context of the post is 2 days ago, in a post about Lemmy dev being in need of donations.

Many people have expressed their lack of interest in supporting the devs, due to transphobia and other issues.

So its not so much drama from 9 months ago (reference/link text of post) as it is the continuation as seen in a post 2 days ago (image shown in this post).

So he is 17, his mom was 35, and his dad was 51? Thats some uncomfortable math.

Then he tries to become an uber nazi thanks to social media.

Just awful all around.

Please dont bend and pinch your cables. Make a loop as shown in the bottom middle.

Add a piece of string to tie it.

And no zip ties. Zip ties are for attaching cables to other things, and should never be tightened fully.

One Truss Lettuce is 49 days. A mooch is 11 days, just under a quarter of a truss lettuce.

Irrelevant.

Also...

but the community doesn't know all the facts that lead to that decision.

And the decision was to go to .world, where recently the admin team decided trolls are to be engaged with, where misogyny, transphobia, etc happens pretty regularly and doesnt "cross the line", with their reasoning being that the admin team was too heavy handed.

If that doesnt scream "Completely out of sync with the community" to you, I don't know what would.

No matter how you look at it - the mod team is far, far removed from being on the same page as the community. That makes them the wrong mods for the community.

They haven't been in the band in years, only Willis is left and he's a steaming pile of garbage. Its no surprise those he brought in will be as well.

This really isn't a high bar

Just an unnecessary one, yes.

what do you think athletes spend on running shoes, baseball gloves and ice skates?

Last I checked, chess isn't played from the trousers. Though maybe that would make it more fun, I don't know.

Honestly I think this speaks to the value of having user-level blocking of instances rather than defederation. Maybe one day that will be incorporated into Lemmy (or similar).

They aren't illegal to sell.

Manufacturers can't make them any longer, existing inventory is permitted to be sold off. So they can be found on amazon, ebay, and a bunch of other places still. Just won't see any new stock coming in, and places that have less stock (as in, not gigantic warehouses) haven't been getting new ones in for some time. Nearly a year now I believe.

We don't have a national ID, which is part of the issue. As a result, regular identification is by state depts (motor vehicles).

It also means for passports, you need to either fill out the form and mail it in, or visit a State Dept office for some expedited options (requires specific reasons to do so, requires an appointment).

In recent years, the Postmaster General has royally screwed the post office (that's a whole separate thing, so I won't go into that here. Short answer, Trump). So it runs pretty inefficiently, and that's the main way that people are getting passports.

So... Several reasons why.
