I think they did a study in the Amazon, and found that actually the Amazon is strongest when defended by indigenous populations. In fact basically all around the world, all nature is stronger when protected by humans.

I think you could make the case that before capitalism, this would also have been the case in the west. There are clear links between the growth of capitalism and witch burning.

Man these guys should try putting more effort into making the game rather than harrassing their employees.

My guess is this is the underlying reason. Basically these companies set up the infrastructure for when governments would start to mandate this stuff, and they'd get a bit of nice press out of it. However, the fossil companies have found that you can basically confound all progress by the private sector just via the threat of rolling back climate legislation. This happened when the LNP government even just mentioned a nuclear plan which is just plain stupid.

I'm guessing by even stating it, Air NZ has gone one better than a lot of companies, which have conveniently "forgotten" about their goals. They'll get 20% of the way and declare that a success, but basically one company can't move until all of them move. We need to get the crazies out of government and out of opposition too.

Yeah same. I would much prefer they mainline the code as opposed to "supporting" it themselves.

Yeah I was pretty upset by this like it seems the other commenters. The issue is that climate change isn't "solved" or "not solved". We are, day by day, locking in deaths, locking in ecological damage. The longer we take, the worse it gets. That's not doomerism that's just reality.

As for doing something, well yeah we have to do something because the longer we take the worse it gets.

The real problem here is that most mainstream politicians are trying to "balance" issues like "the economy" (AKA stuff humans made up) and "Capitalism" (more made up stuff) and "climate" (a real thing). Literally the easiest thing to change here (collectively) is our minds, but it's the one thing the politicians won't do.

The status quo: Yay!

Activists: The new tactic is murder.

The status quo: Oh no!

This is more accurate than the take about growth being more important than climate change. Honestly there are many companies which are dedicated to change, and would lobby to make this also profitable, because dealing with climate change is a strategic thing. Same way as building a platform which loses money for several years is strategic.

Jeff Bezos though? He does not care at all.

I got the powkiddy X55. I only use it for ports. I really feel like the true power of these devices is in ports and native linux ARM games.

Same. People talk about good design but I've not seen design as beautiful as lowtech.
