I used this two AAs in a row until my wife asked me to cool it with "the lemony one". Such a treat to use.

This is my first time using the tiny Mühle (they call 21mm "medium" for some reason) with the pretty handle and it's a real adjustment coming from bigger, denser knots. This thing has basically no back bone and feels empty. On the other hand, even on this first use, it lathered surprisingly well and had zero badger funk. I'm curious whether I will appreciate this style of brush after a few days of using it, or whether this was just a pricey mistake. Currently leaning mistake, but open to be convinced, since objectively, it didn't make a bad lather at all.

  • Brush: Zenith 506B MB (27 mm × 51 mm Manchurian badger)
  • Razor: Eversharp-Schick Hydro-magic (I2, NOS)
  • Blade: Personna Injector Blade
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann Fougère Gothique
  • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann Fougère Gothique

Truly luxurious second luxury shave with Fougère Gothique. I should repeat this evening shave with a straight razor soon.

  • Brush: Wild West Brushworks – Copper Shadow with Timberwolf knot
  • Razor: Ever-Ready Streamline
  • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE
  • Lather: Abbate Y La Mantia – Koké
  • Post Shave: Abbate Y La Mantia – Koké
  • Fragrance: House of Mammoth / Noble Otter / Declaration Grooming – Cerberus

Koké is one of my luckier blind buys. Heavy floral, a bit sweet, some pear and musk, really lovely stuff. Works well with Cerberus, too.

  • Barrister and Mann – Brew Ha-Ha
  • Catie's Bubbles – Reflection

  • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts Tabak Oridjinal, now with 28 mm Gelousy knot
  • Razor: Böker – 14er (8/8", extra hollow, carbon steel, square point)
  • Lather: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
  • Post Shave: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
  • Fragrance: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original

Always a real pleasure to use the big 14er. While it sounds and shaves just like its venerable ancestors, it feels significantly different than those classic 14-style razors because of its sharp live point. The slightly rounded square point on the classics makes them as forgiving as round point razors or perfect auto-pilot razors. The pokey needle that is this one's point keeps you on your toes, if you don't want a scratch.

I did stay on my toes and was rewarded with a smooth early morning shave. I wish you all a good start into this week.

The slow feed bowl doesn't work for me either. The nubs get in the way of picking up the soap. It's me general criticism of most lather bowls. The ridges are counterproductive.

I suspect that if you use a smooth-bottomed bowl to create a big surface of soap (like in the tub), then you'll load just fine

  • Brush: Semogue Owner's Club (cherry wood and boar) (54)
  • Razor: Zwilling J. A. Henckels Friodur 17 (NOS, 7/8", hollow ground, stainless steel)
  • Lather: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
  • Post Shave: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
  • Fragrance: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original

A blissful early morning Stankening. The Frio edge is showing first signs of wear after 24 uses. Still comfortable, but the smooth bliss phase is at an end.

I'm in the phase of AA where routine has taken over. My lather is great, the brush is breaking in nicely, and the edge is still comfortable. The edge refresh weekend of HoneMeisterschaft comes just in time to make things interesting again.

I'll try to find a moment tonight after Djunior's bedtime to give the Frio a fresh new edge for the remainder of August, and I'm looking forward to reading the other HoneMeinsters' pets about refreshing their edges and the difference it makes.

Day 13/31 of Looking for Serenity in Austerity

  • Brush: Semogue Owner's Club (cherry wood and boar) (13)
  • Razor: Zwilling J. A. Henckels Friodur 50 (7/8", hollow ground, stainless steel, masonic deco) (11)
  • Lather: Spearhead Shaving Company – Seaforth! Roman Spice
  • Post Shave: Spearhead Shaving Company – Seaforth! Roman Spice
  • Fragrance: Spearhead Shaving Company – Seaforth! Roman Spice

I'm solidly back on the morning shave routine train and that feels good. I was almost expecting that, after yesterday's ultra-smooth Friodur 17 Second Luxury Shave™, this 50 would feel rough by comparison, but this edge and razor still feel smooth and pleasant. It just feels lighter, less deliberate, less substantial.

Nose blindness is setting in and the scent of Roman Spice starts to escape me while lathering and shaving. I still get the splash and the frag, so that's good, but I'm getting tempted to go more than my usual 2 spritzes, which is probably not the best idea for a day at the office.

Oh, and the brush is winning me over.

Another late evening shave. Is it just me or is it more difficult to find a moment of free time during vacation?
