Yeah you're right. "Could be gone forever" is probably more accurate. I imagine most banks would give you a bit of leeway, just like most CCs aren't going to hold you liable for the first $50 like they technically could.

But at the same time, that money is gone immediately from your account, so if a sizable amount gets debited it could put you in a pickle until/if they refund it.

It can be tough to break from habitual behavior in the moment (i.e. when you're reaching for a snack). Instead try putting some effort on making it harder or more inconvenient to indulge in that habit, while also giving yourself alternatives so it doesn't feel too torturous and make you want to give up.

For example, I'm guessing it will be a lot less emotionally "painful" to resist buying those snacks when you're out grocery shopping than it will be to resist grabbing them when they are already in your pantry. Use that to your advantage and stop buying the worst ones and try replacing them with a few healthier alternatives so that when the urge to snack hits at least the worst options are not available to you.

I'm hardly the healthiest eater, but a good apple sliced up satisfies a lot of my urges to snack. Baby carrots with hummus also keep your mouth busy and fill you up with relatively few calories. Try a few fruit/veggie snacks to see if any scratch your itch to snack. You don't have to change 100%, if you can break the junk food habit even 1/4 of the time, that's a step.

Another thing that's worked for me is portion control. Instead of bringing the whole bag of chips with you, pour a bowl and leave the rest in the kitchen. You might go back for seconds sometimes, but it still creates a barrier to eating more.

I think the most important thing is don't try to make it all or nothing. That will just set you up for failure and frustration. Take steps that are meaningful but achievable. And when you have the motivation, try to think of ways to set yourself up for it to be easier to make good choices when you have less motivation. You got this 💪

The humblest brag 😁

Looks delicious and now I'm hungry!

I like it!

It's too bad you have to go back 100 years to find a comic taking the pics out of the "language purists" instead of going for the lazy boomerhumor about "goshdurn kids these days and their slang".

¿Por que no los dos?

Seriously, crimes require motive and opportunity. Clearly a prevalence of guns provide the opportunity murderers prefer, so why should we wholesale disregard that as a way to reduce mass violence when guns are the preferred vehicle?

To be clear, I empathize with the argument that mental health issues are also a factor, but that argument seems to be brought up exclusively as a reaction to gun control, and never with any serious follow through. So until the pro-gun crowd starts proposing some actual solutions that aren't simply blame games rooted in vague racism (fatherless families blah blah blah) or christofascism (put Jesus back in our schools) I can't take them seriously. If universal mental health care, dismantling of systematic racism, etc were issues supported by the pro-gun bloc, then it would be a different story.

Bombings aren't as common as school shootings because most school shooters don't want to kill that indiscriminately.

I'm gonna need a source on that one. The entire MO of these mass shootings (and indeed bombings) has been to cause as much death and injury as possible in a short timeframe, and the only targeting I've seen is toward the general building, such as a school or nightclub.

It's always the same playbook... Put out a trash argument, and then try to pivot to the next talking point when you get called out.

I'm interested in discussing the actual argument you made, not an imaginary one you're making for me.

School bombings and mass stabbings are simply an infinitesimal problem compared to shootings. Surely there's a reason for that, and the most obvious one is that there is some impediment to committing murder in those ways that is smaller than using a gun.

The current "stock photo meme" fad is about as interesting as a "K-Mart clothes" themed costume party.

Even as irony, it's boring.

Refer to my second point then.

Fully agreed that Hot/rising is garbage right now. It seems to weight very recent posts with zero comments or upvotes equally with older posts that have robust discussion, so >80% of the content is the same as sorting by New.
