I've successfully used a 1050 Ti and a 3060 Ti with Linux Mint and the proprietary drivers (selected through the GUI driver manager). So if anyone reading this is in a similar situation it might be worth it to try that.

It's going to get harder and harder to do that as cellphones get better though.
iPhones already have satellite SOS feature which works worldwide, and are starting to roll out satellite texting for non-emergency use. There are a few Android models that are slated to do the same, and it's only a matter of time before most phones can do this.
There are plenty of phones that are waterproof (or rated for submersion in 5 meters of water for 30 minutes or whatever) and that's only going to become more common too.
My phone lasts for about 2 days on a charge with how much I use it, and I charge it every night. That's only going to get better with better battery technologies (the trend of phones getting thinner in response to increased battery capacity has actually somewhat reversed in recent years).
So, in a classic horror movie scenario with 5 or so people they'd need a reason why every single person is out of charge or has their phone broken. Even if the protagonists can't get themselves out of the situation they're in using their phones (because they're broken or whatever) you still need to answer how they got into that situation in the first place if they have offline maps and GPS navigation. That's not as big of a problem but it eliminates "they got lost" as a premise for why they're in some spooky woods or wherever.
It seems to me that you'd either need to set the story in an abandoned mine or make the antagonist explicitly supernatural.

And more homes went up, transforming the area that you're in into more suburb, and cutting you off from nature.
Do you think the people who moved into those houses also wanted to live with suburb on one side and nature on the other? Conversely, how do you think the people living near the previous edge of the suburb felt when your house went up?

I mean it's basically anything that massively affects your living situation or how you outwardly present / function as a person.
Want to live in a hole in the desert, or a cabin in the woods, or in a semi-legal squat? It would be pretty hard to maintain a relationship with a partner whose not also into living that way.
Want to convert the interior of your house to look like a Star Trek set? Better find someone that wants to live on the USS Enterprise.
Are you into extreme body modification? Better find someone whose alright with their partner surgically altering themselves to look like a Klingon.
There are also plenty of interests that are just risky or disruptive, like doing urban exploration, running a home chemistry lab, building tesla coils, etc. Tesla coils are just loud, urban exploration can get you arrested (though it's unlikely anything of consequence will actually happen to you), and two of the amateur chemistry YouTube channels I watch have been raised by the police because the amount of glassware they bought set off an alarm (neither of them were charged with anything though). If you do any of those and your partner isn't interested in them at all I can't imagine that not being a pain point, considering that risk/disruption is also on top of you spending significant time / energy / cash on a hobby they have nothing to do with.
Finally, there are more benign hobbies like through hiking or immersive historical reenactment where, if your partner's not coming with you, they'd have to be okay with you disappearing for weeks at a time and not being able to talk to them.
The thing is that whether that guy was trying to "decode" you or not, a person's intentions don't determine the effect that their actions have. Furthermore, just because something is a commonly used phrase doesn't mean it's good.
If you didn't mean to bodyshame people in general, then that's great. You're probably a cool person. But if someone says "hey please stop punching those innocent people" you can't say "oh don't worry, it doesn't count because I was trying to hit someone else, I'm going to keep punching them and it still won't count".

Maybe their management shouldn't be consolidated but their funding absolutely should be, into a single country-wide fund. The districts should then be paid an equal amount on a per-student basis.
You might say that this doesn't account for differences in the cost of living between different areas. I say that it's all the better that it doesn't, because if the funding is set such that it is sufficient to fund education in the most expensive areas (and it will be because these areas have the most political power), the relatively increased funding will allow the poorer areas to catch up.

Overall the US spends way more per capita on its healthcare than any other country (both in absolute terms and as a percent of GDP), and yet has the worst healthcare outcomes of any developed nation.
Using solar panels to power artificial lighting so you can vertically stack farms directly inside cities doesn't make any sense from a sustainability perspective.
But greenhouses in the suburbs that are tied into the city's thermal grid and seasonal thermal energy store is the future of agriculture IMO.
By enclosing fields in greenhouses you decrease the land, water, pesticide, and fertilizer requirements, while also eliminating fertilizer runoff and the possibility of soil depletion from tilling. By tying a greenhouse into a thermal grid the greenhouse can act as a solar thermal collector in the summer while maybe even condensing the water that evaporates through the plants for reuse. Then you can use that same heat to heat homes during the winter or extend the growing season in the greenhouse even further.
