That already exists. It's called arXiv, and is used by mathematicians, physicists and computer scientists. Everyone else has to pay up.

better yet how about they take enough for donation and decanter a portion out an do blood testing both to make sure the blood is clean but alsoso the individual is aware of they are free of X

This is already how they do it here (India). They'll test all donations for a number of infections, and you can give them your mobile number / e-mail / postal address to inform you if they find something.

This was just incredibly dumb. Now any positive news about their new phone is going to be seen as planted.

Gold having 1 more is weird because you would expect no silver if two have gold and therefore a difference of 2.

Vinesh Phogat was disqualified for being overweight during the weigh-in of the 50kg women's wrestling final. Her opponent got gold, and both losing semifinalists got bronze.

It became a big controversy in India because she had been <50kg for every match until then, and she had previously protested against the wrestling federation - which chose her dietician and other staff - for covering up sexual assault cases.

Cheung Ka-long's 15-14 victory in an Olympic fencing final against Filippo Macchi has resulted in a war of words between their fans. Italy supporters have attacked Cheung's social media accounts, arguing that the referees - from South Korea and Taiwan - may have been biased towards him. In response, Hongkongers have posted their love of 'pineapple on pizza' and 'pasta with soy sauce'. Pizza hut Hong Kong has announced free pineapple toppings on pizza orders.

South Korea's Supreme Court ruled that the state health insurance agency should provide the same benefits to spouses in same-gender relationships as it does to those in heterosexual marriages. The ruling is final and cannot be appealed.

South Korea, like most of East Asia, neither prohibits nor recognises same-sex relationships. As of now, only three places in Asia - Nepal, Thailand and Taiwan - have full marriage equality.

The research was paid for by someone. It is not unheard of for a company to offer a grant under the condition that they get the results, say, six months before the rest of the world.

Among smaller parties, the Liberal Democrats have gained over 60 seats, and Reform, the Greens and Plaid Cymru have also gained seats. Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, now contesting as an independent, retained Islington North. Labour lost another three seats to independents who ran against its inaction on Palestine. The SNP and DUP suffered big losses, while Sinn Fein's fortunes seem to have remained unchanged.

Preliminary results for the 2024 Indian General election suggest that the Bharatiya Janata Party is set to lose its absolute majority in the lower house of Parliament. However, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) it leads is projected to cross the halfway mark. The opposition INDIA alliance is projected to more than double its seat count, from 92 to around 200 seats.

Just to clarify, Evangelion is basically saying 'don't guilt-trip teens into being soldiers, don't put them under the power of horny adults (however well-meaning), don't bully them or treat them like lab mice, and definitely don't cut them off from civilian society and the chance to form normal human friendships'. Seems some people saw all of that and only remembered the cool mechas.

Srinivasa Ramanujan was an Indian mathematician who worked on number theory, infinite series and analysis. He said that he would have dreams of drops of blood (a symbol of his village deity, the goddess Namagiri Thayar), followed by complex mathematical equations. Even with the help of his formally-trained friend GH Hardy, he was only able to prove a small fraction of his insights.

Gregori Perelman is a Russian mathematician best known for solving the Poincare conjecture. He posted his results on arXiv in 2002-03, but never published them in a journal and never accepted any prize or money. He has expressed dismay over the lack of ethics in research.

Anon is a /sci/ user who in 2011 proved the current lower bound of a superpermutation for any size greater than 2 (the Haruhi Problem). Their proof has been archived for posterity, but we don't know anything more about them.

If you aren't from south / southeast Asia you'll struggle with our traffic. Our roads are a stream of everything from cycles to busses with no dedicated lanes. If you want to cross the road and can't find a zebra-crossing you gang up with other pedestrians, hold up traffic by shouting and waving, and cross.

Understanding languages you don't know - every city will have people speaking three or more languages, so you need to understand what someone is saying even if you don't speak their language. Broken English with gesturing is a lingua franca.

Humans aren't the only ones to do this. Many animals eat plants that don't kill them but are deadly to their predators / parasites.
