I am an animal rights activist, and spend significant time doing activism as well. I am not sure if you are referring to the "left" as in the western left, or the global left. The left in India, where I do activism does not necessarily equate to global left. And while I would only be able to talk from my selection bias of the skewed data, while there are tonnes of people who didn't change after learning the reality, it is usually the people who take a rather consistent anti-oppression stance, who change their ways, to start respecting animal rights.
