I can't find this in the announcements and stuff. Where does it say that exactly?

[-] gnuhaut@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 months ago

Looking at someone being tortured and your first thought is "must have done something to deserve this". That's fucked up.

And then you immediately tell everybody else this thought. "This guy probably deserved it!" You did not take a couple of seconds to check whether your theory is contradicted by the article. You victimized the guy again with your baseless accusation, but you did not think or care about that.

Your excuse for this? Can't accept the IDF soldiers being ontologically evil. Yeah me neither pal, it's a childish concept. There are actual material reasons for the cruelty. If you want to steal someone's land, you need to drive them out, and being cruel is a tried and true method to achieve this. No need to invoke good and evil, and no need to invent your own reality.

But of course, you do not afford the same to Hamas. No elaborate theory-crafting in this instance. There you have no problem declaring them just plain evil.

What flavor evil are you?

I don't think the problem is with GRUB.

There are various different ways in which USB keyboards can encode keypresses. I've seen some BIOSes that just cannot deal with some keyboards due to this. The USB keyboard driver that will be in use during GRUB should be the BIOS/UEFI driver. So I would try updating the mainboard firmware/EFI or try a different keyboard maybe? Or disable the GRUB password if that's an option.

It actually starts, and then turns off. I didn’t notice it before you drew my attention.

That does sound like DPMS ("vesa display power management signaling") shenanigans though.

Maybe you can disable XFCE's display power management stuff completely? Systemd's logind (/etc/systemd/logind.conf) can do (and does by default I think) suspend on lid-close without any window manager involvement at all, works fine with i3 here. So disabling XFCE's stuff probably "only" messes with your monitor not going standby after a while, and you can maybe use xset or xscreensaver and set this by hand (after making sure it's actually properly disabled in XFCE, so XFCE doesn't override that stuff).

Found this about how to stop xfce4-power-manager and disable DPMS:

xfce4-power-manager -q
xset -dpms

Try doing that and see if lid close works afterwards.

Every retelling of this story I have ever seen or read says that the stationing of nuclear missiles on Cuba was a response to nuclear missiles deployed to Turkey. Presumably this is what mainstream historians believe. Are you disagreeing with this?

[-] gnuhaut@lemmy.ml 3 points 10 months ago

You just praised someone who thinks Israel is not committing genocide ("I’d disagree on the will to actually genocide" is genocide denial, because intent is literally part of the definition). You then complain that people don't think you're for real when you say "yes, they are".

Haven't tried it myself, but there's lossless-cut:

So some part of the government is genocidal and some other part isn't? So you can just ignore what the prime minister and other people in charge are saying, because they are not really in charge? This is the stupidest argument I've ever heard, and Israel didn't even make that argument in their defense. Instead they said: These are not the official orders, so that's just talk basically. Despite the actual fucking evidence of what their troops are doing confirming it isn't just talk.

Hamas is impeding aid.

Hamas is doing this all themselves! They're stopping the aid! They blew up Gaza themselves (they said that in the courtroom)! They probably also turned off the water and electricity!? It's easy to prove that Israel did all that stuff, and they said so. Here's the Israeli defense minister:

We are imposing a complete siege of Gaza. There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel, everything will be closed.

Must be one of those people not really in charge of anything and I must have imagined when they did that.

You're living in some alternate reality. Are you deliberately trying to mount the worst defense in order to make Israel look bad?

You're just thinking of the worker aristocracy in the West, not the global working class, clearly. China has lifted hundreds of millions out of poverty. And it's neat how you blame China for something done by your own ruling class. Furthermore, this trade war (not to mention a war war) will be terrible for workers everywhere. Do you think the billionaires are going to bail you out? No, they're going to squeeze workers even more to finance this conflict, and they'll tell you suffering is your patriotic duty.

And imagine thinking China is the genocidal one out of those two. The US has had a hand in so many genocides and has directly and indirectly killed millions in the last decades. If you compare this to what China has done recently they look like angels.

You say that, but conscription always has exceptions, which usually include having an important job or going to university, which would presumably skew the result towards more poor people in the army. There's also corruption of course.

Germany and Italy literally did not get rid fascism willingly, they were defeated and this was imposed on them. And being from Germany, I assure you denazification was incredibly half-assed.

Look at it for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/SlCLSBr9sW0

They're doing the salute and everything. That salute was introduced by the fascist OUN.

I mean, if it discourages people from buying new fridges when their old one still works that's good actually. A fridge that gets thrown out is just a waste, it's only due to braindead capitalist logic that this looks like growth.
