Ah. So no option with visual feedback..? Wonder if a plugin exists that can help there.

I'm waffling between that or just setting up a bare git repo. Am prepping a VM or two to explore the pros/cons of each approach and to dive into the implications.

It's funny - this project idea seems to free bubbling up everywhere this past week. I'm sure I'm seeing the consequences of search algorithms, but on Lemmy, it's nice to see what is a definite and pleasant coincidence.

That is the next item on my to-do list. I've already installed my own gitea container to run at home. Yes, I could use a public repo (set private) but I wanted I learn how to do this and besides, I wanted to cast a wider net for which files to store but not worry about inadvertently publishing something with passwords embedded...

Can you not just backup the pg txn logs (with periodic full backups, purged in accordance with your needs?). That's a much safer way to approach DBs anyway.

(exclude the online db files from your file system replication)

Interestingly, a friend of mine just sent me this https://www.musicradar.com/news/linux-studio.

I will try to help him out with it - it's promising, as he does not have the hardware/workflow obstacles that I have, but he's also not as technically minded. I actually really hope becomes workable for him.

Update - it's ultimately a non-starter, I'm afraid. A nightmare in trying to integrate unsupported HW (Line 6, etc - forgot about those ones...)

Frustrating. Naively, I keep trying and bashing my head into that wall...

Exactly. Personally, I'm relegated to Windows with a healthy dose of WSL. Wish it weren't so, but it is so.

Thank you! Unfortunate that it's missing from the App now, but at least there's a workaround for browser folk.

Used to run Linux as daily driver about 20 years ago, so I recently converted an old laptop to Linux to breathe new life into it.

It's definitely good for many things, but many things are simply not doable. And some things are not doable simply.

Would love to see broader support from companies so that devices worked (with resorting to clever, yet incomplete guesswork scripts from helpful enthusiasts). I don't see evidence of this changing anytime soon. So my main machine will just have to remain Windows until then. Unfortunately.

I also wish Wayland had broader adoption amongst distros and that some essential tools existed for it (remote desktop server, for example - gnome's works, but you have to been confined to gnome...)

But, many things will improve over time. It's a lot of fun.

I try lo like the Front Burner, but the host comes off as unserious and it really makes it hard to wade through. Casual rapport is fine, but it's difficult to strike the right note. (by way of contrast, The Daily usually manages it quite well even when it's not Michael Barbaro).

Have been looking forward to seeing your they implement this. Once it gels a bit I'll likely dive in.

Honestly, I just make sure my default view is "Subscribed". I can go to 'All' if I need to, but it definitely helps.

(Mastodon also works best when limiting to local instance and follows - it would benefit from being able to aggregate a few select local instances in a view, but that's getting even further off topic!)
