I'm torn - apps are brutal for privacy but I really like the isolation from browser and all other sites. I typically clear browser cache on every exit so for apps that I use regularly, I am forced to sign in every time if going in through browser.

Wish browser apps had better isolation for multiple sessions.

I think someone needs a hug.

I used to use xfce quite a lot (very lightweight and great for anything virtual, especially). I recently installed the latest Ubuntu with gnome. It's actually pretty good, but... Oh man do I ever wish that top notification bar could be merged with the task bar (and relocated to the bottom). Also, the extensions designed to auto-hide it no longer work!

My reflex action to close a window is to mouse up to the corner of the screen and click. This is ineffective if there's an immovable top bar there in the way and taking up limited screen real estate.

I'd switch to KDE (or Sway, or..?) , but they don't have a Wayland RDP server... yet. (I use this.)

Anyway, give it a try. Gnome is okay when you get used to it, but my impression is that it seems to resist flexibility for its users, and this is quite sad, actually. (I'm still using it, and I'm eager to be wrong here.)

I'd hate to be one of the 15 unlucky buyers...

That said - fsck Apple. I've no interest in their little walled garden. These stunts just reinforce why I feel that way.

That seems plausible.

Out of habit, I log into reddit periodically if only to complete a conversation I was having there, but the official app is just so bad that I quickly log off.

Jerboa doesn't work with a few of the servers I use (minimum version not in place yet) but I like it better than connect. I wish connect would remember my current filter/view settings when I chose/open it.

Hoping that as more apps come online all that will work itself out though.

Content is still lacking. I hope it picks up, but I think things are perhaps too fragmented between kbin and lemmy type instances for things to fully take off. Hope I'm wrong though.

I worry about how things will look if it really does grow as a ecosystem - if various lemmy communities become the 'go to' place to be, spam and trolls will soon follow, and moderation will become a growing concern. Maybe that's the same as in reddit-land. Not sure.

This is a hugely significant week in the world of social media upheaval (Twitter with another catastrophic goal on its own net and Meta capitalizing, and Reddit completely mishandling its policy shifts). It is quite a thing to witness.
