Maybe they became self aware and could no longer live with themselves knowing their family history.

One thing to note with X11's design, having a server and client, there was nothing requiring both to be on the same machine. You could run an X11 client on your local machine, ssh into a remote machine and use its X11 server.

Lets say you are home and can ssh into a work server. You could run Firefox on the work machine, using it's network and have the visual parts show up on your home computer.

This was very much a Unix, shared resource style design. Servers and thin clients. Put all your horse power in the big machine and connect using your crappy low power system to it.

It's the party that lies through their teeth. Why on earth would you think they would admit anything?

Last time i moved i got cold called by Comcast to sign up for Internet. I asked them the price, they gave some deal. I asked what will be the price in 2 years when the contract was up. "Oh, well that really depends on what services you sign up for." I tell them i want only Internet at this given speed and i will never sign up for anything else.

...the woman on the phone just stopped talking. I asked can she not tell me the price after all the specials run out and i get my last bill in the contract. She said "i dont know what you want me to say."

Apparently they dont want people to know how screwed you are with Internet. I told the woman that i was going to write a letter letting them know that her inability to answer a simple question was the reason i was not going with their service. She hung up on me. Sent the letter and i got a call a few weeks later asking ifni wanted a super crazy deal they "never give to anyone." I asked my question again and they couldn't tell me my final bill so i hung up and reported the number as spam to my phone carrier.

When the last big Twitter migration to Mastodon occurred there were a lot new users complaining about things like documentation, bugs, etc. Old users and FLOSS supporters kept pushing the "its open source, write a doc or fill out a bug ticket" and evem included documentation on how to do those tasks.

Most people just continued to complain. /facepalm

Not a photographer but worked at the restaurant where a wedding party had their rehearsal dinner.

The groom stood up and gave a toast, all well and good. Not sure if he didnt habe parents or what but the bride's father talked a moment and gave the groom a few jabs that slowly turned into him almost roasting the guy. Took it that the bride's father didn't really like the guy. Groom made a jab back and the father slung it right back at him.

And that is when the groom goes off and slugs the bride's father square in the face and down he goes. Groom says a bunch of "fuck you and fuck you" and walks out of the restaurant. We ended up having to walk all these people to their cars because they were afraid the groom might come back and do something (ha like I'm going to protect your great aunt mulva if he comes back with a gun!).

A couple came into the restaurant a few weeks later, friends of one side of the wedding party. Turns out the groom went back to the hotel, packed up his stuff and left to go back home. Had all the bride's stuff packed and on a moving truck to her parents place before the weekend was out. Groom just flat out nope'd her.

They knew. They say that because they don't actually want to fulfill their employees needs.

We want to WFH because we dont want a 2hr unpayed commute. The way that ks fixed is for employees to consider the commute part of their 9-5 but that means we are really only doing 10-4 with an hour from lunch.

We want WFH because our lunch breaks don't easily get taken over by meetings because we arent sitting at our desk of the break room. The hour is an actual hour you can't contact me so more "lost time".

With WFH its harder to keep people around after hours as they can quickly mark their chat so to afk. That means no more 4:30 pop ins saying we need to stay late.

Turns out that when your employees can force their work time no one givea away free time. When you end WFH and try to squeeze out more time you're going to piss off a lot of people.

They are being treated just like every other method to send someone money. They aren't using them as investment products, just transaction tools. I'm sure most are pulling the money out of the cryptocurrency as soon as they receive it.

It is quite interesting how games came out in the past that never got updates. Now you install a game and the first thing it does is downloads updates for a day before you can play.

You're talking about an issue humanity has had since forever, getting people to do what is best for their own interests. In business they actually needed to create the concept of a union just so that people would organize in a way to help all workers. Without that force driving them together what you get is the Reddit 48hr blackout. People can't stop using the service long enough to invoke actual change because their addiction to Reddit was too high.

This rollback of login requirements was because Google stopped indexing them. The only power the people had in the Twitter situation was being the consumers of Google who were being directed away from Twitter.

Maybe it was just me but Musk has never seemed like someone who actually understood tech. Just a rich guy who buys up other's work and talks a big game. I knew the second I heard he bought Twitter it was going to crash and burn. He's doing it way faster than I thought possible.

Of course he will eventually say this was all on purposes and not that he is crap at business and tech.
