I swear I've been reading this rumor for 3+ years at this point

God, I wish. We unfortunately do about 1200 miles per month and our electricity is cheap (15cents per kWh) so we pay about $70/mo to charge our car. Much cheaper than the roughly $200 I would've been paying in gas had I kept my Accord though, and if we were better about charging at my wife's work where it's free, we'd save a ton more. But she's only in the office once a week and it's hard to line up our driving habits such that it's low enough to charge then

Depends on your housing situation I assume. Mile for mile in a similarly specced car (V6 honda accord vs Model 3 Long Range) my electricity costs are about 1/4 what I paid in gas. But that's because I can charge at home. If I had to exclusively supercharge, they'd be about the same.

Thankfully I don't have to, so I get to wake up every morning to a full car

I can't wait to get solar. Personally I don't have the cash on hand to pay the $40K quote I got for a 16kW system, and I'm not comfortable taking out that big of a loan with the economy being such a huge question mark, but in a year or two I'm really looking forward to it

Sorry, I was agreeing with you, just poorly haha.

Really what I meant is like “if you want to use superchargers, regardless of connector, Tesla has to let you. But cars/chargers switching to NACS doesn’t mean that if Tesla changes their connector your car stops working”

I’m totally in favor of the change (and I love that SAE is getting involved, since that makes it feel a bit more real)

Oh yeah that’s been over for over a year at this point. We’re on month 7 of 12 fulfillment. Bummer you missed it! It was expensive ($600 for all four books and all eight loot boxes plus audiobooks) but it has felt super worth it for me so far (I’m a mega fan though to be fair)

Yeah in the ICE era they have made extremely reliable cars. However it remains to be seen who the reliability king is when it comes to EVs. Toyota’s first attempt has had some pretty major issues (such as the wheels falling off). EVs in general need way less maintenance so it stands to reason some other brand who embraced EVs sooner can become the new reliability king

Makes sense! I wish I knew rust so I could chip in but I don’t think my angular/dotnet skillset will be of much use, and I don’t really have the free time to pick up a new lang

Yeah, I'm cautiously optimistic that if they do truly join the fediverse, we'll finally have our real twitter replacement (aka relatively community friendly tech that's accessible to people who don't want to hear the word instance, AND the big benefit that basically everybody already has an instagram account). I haven't used twitter since the musk takeover, but a lot of people whose opinions and reporting I care about still do. Most of them never bothered with the migration to mastodon, although lots of them are on bluesky. I'm hoping that the easy of availability of Threads gets them over there, and that the fediverse connection doesn't take too long so I can start to interact with them via Mastodon without having to agree to all those permissions. Sorry, kinda lost the plot there.

I’m interested to see reviews from actual users of this thing. Seems like a very neat idea. $350 is wayyyyyy too much for me, but if I can get one for $100-$150 some day and they’re decent, I’d definitely consider it

[-] kiddblur@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Haha I mean it’s not like I share it with anyone else. I just have it on my Plex server in an enormous video game music playlist I shuffle through when I’m reading or working

I'm super excited for this. I would rather have a new 3D mario, but I'm perfectly happy for a new 2D mario. Part of me wanted more mario maker content, but at the end of the day I'd rather have levels designed by nintendo employees
