Russia-Israel relations are oddly friendly despite Russia’s strong alliance with Syria and partnership with Iran.

Israel did supply some weapons to Ukraine but not that much, a pretty tokenistic effort to satisfy the requirements of vassalage, and Russia arms Syria to the point of being able to maintain its territorial integrity but not to the point of being a threat to Israel or even to really prevent Israeli air strikes.

They are allies of each others enemies but dance around this and avoid becoming outright enemies of each other.

If push came to shove, like if Israel seriously invaded Syria, I think Russia would help Syria resist that but I think Russia is doing its best to dance on the tightrope of being allied with Syria & Iran without actually being geopolitically against Israel. It sounds like an impossible compromise but they’re doing it and everyone in the region seems to just nod and agree with that immense contradiction.

I think Russia sees Turkey and Israel as being weak links in the US alliance system that can be pulled out of US orbit at some point.
