I frankly don't know how the average atomized American family copes with raising children.

Apparently they are coping very poorly, as per recent surveys:

"After breaking out responses from people with children under age 18, the APA reported that 48 percent of those parents and caregivers describe themselves as completely overwhelmed."

"The parent-specific breakdown also found that 41 percent said most days they "were so stressed they couldn't function" — double the number reported by non-parents — while 42 per cent said they were so stressed they felt numb."

This past week I went on vacation and logged out for the entire week (except a few visits to the general megathread).

This was the most logged off I've been in a long time. It was only possible since I was on an island, without my laptop and without my phone for most of the day. This is the first time in a long time that I didn't spend all day thinking about the horrible shit happening in the world.

It was great and I wish I could do that more often. But it's almost impossible to replicate that environment. It only worked because I was on vacation and was able to just chill on the beach all day.

In regards to the monthly review, last month was hot as hell so I fell off in a lot of my habits. The plan for September is to pick up where I left off before summer, especially with exercise. It would be great if I could resume runnning twice every week in September. unity

Even with a year’s worth of U.S. weapons on the way, Ukraine cannot count on future aid packages, particularly if Donald Trump becomes President again.

The chatGPT prompt for this article was: "Make the dumbass reader of The New Yorker think that they are reading an article about Ukraine while actually serving them an advertisement for Genocide Joe"

My goal this month was to start running again and eat at maintenance so that I have enough energy. I went running on 6 days and hit my nutrition goals on most days. I'm currently around 74kg which is good but I'd like to lose some more body fat. Overall I'm satisfied with my progress in March.

In April, I want to continue running 2x per week and continue eating healthy solidarity

My goal this week was to go running on two days and I managed to do it. I also practiced meditation on 4 days. My goal is the same for next week, I want to go running on two days again. I also want to eat enough in order to have energy to exercise.

The thing that I want to share with the class today is this super interesting podcast episode - Michael Pollan — This Is Your Mind on Plants. It's not strictly self-improvement related but it's very interesting. He talks about three plants - opium, caffeine, and mescaline - and their effects on human history. He mentions that caffeine was important to capitalism because it improved productivity and enabled people to work night shifts.
