I don't know about Linux being a pain in the ass. My kid was using first Linux on a laptop and then mac, and he wanted to go back to Linux where things make sense. He felt the mac was really confusing in where the files were. He also loved the integrated Software app where he can point and click install everything.

Now he is learning the terminal... :)

I think there is plenty of people who think macs are a pain in the ass too. Depends on what you are used to.

So you can escape the real world into Zuckerbergs weirdo world where he can profit from watching and manipulating you?

Strong pass. I'm sitting on my lawn having an icecream. Fuck you Zuckerberg.

Poeple think they are sharing their enormous profits with creators. Maybe they get a few bucks from the billions.

Yes but why are we ok with that?

Why is it normal to have a giant American ad company know everything about your life, and billions of others?

Its not normal at all. We just got used to the status quo.

Many people associate this company with "the internet" even. It's sick.

No, advertising is horrible and should not exist on Lemmy. But since it's federated, I wonder how we stop it. The only solution seems to be moderators with quick ban hammers. And what if some instances don't moderate for ads?

I like to support devs who makes great products, excellent ones like bitwarden. Otherwise they will go away and we will be left with big tech products only. Because I don't think people like to make excellent products and still don't see a dime in their pocket.

Meta is not going to "use" this technology, they want to own it. And you can be certain they will try their best to build a walled garden with a Facebook login, so the masses pick their form of fediverse rather than the one not controlled by big tech.

Peoples negativity comes from experience with these corporations. You are probably pretty young if you don't see how bad they are.
