The guy actually never had a good personality even. They had to train him for TV evening shows to even make it work...

Yup try it and set as default in the browser. You will start to see a lot of sites that never showed up in google also. They have these "listacles" in search results where they group relevant sites into a small list, which makes it super simple to go to them for results.

If you want a sample search, try "best tv shows 2023" or something like that.

I liked this one better. The repeating last sentence was enough to get it. :)

I agree. :) Haven't played a ubisoft game for ages....

Yeah I've had that experience too. But sometimes I write a lot of hackish code to get it to work, and then after spend time rewriting it so it's easy to understand. But it depends on mood. Sometimes I don't change it because it's complicated and it would be too much thinking required to make it better. :)

Programmers are often lazy by nature...

Had no idea this existed. Thanks!

There are topics that will make people turn against you in a second. People just don't talk about those. :)

Yeah I refuse to use their app and I want nothing to do with them. So while they had some nice subreddits, I will learn to live without them.

Use the ansible Lemmy install, it's very simple and will also create https certs and everything. But you need a domain first, pointed at your hosted server ip address.

https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ansible

So basically:

  • Buy domain
  • Rent a server somewhere (hetzner is great and cheap).
  • Point domain at server ip.
  • Use the ansible install against your server to install everything.

That's pretty much it. The ansible install takes care of everything.

Then you need to subscribe to some other instance community from your instance so other instances know you exist, for federation to work.

I switched to Newpipe on my phone, it's amazing. No ads and lots more features than YouTube ever had.

Nice society we live in. All those sci fi movies was just giving ideas for the people who wants everyone to be under their boot.

Because we can't. Who are you going to complain to about it?

Don't get me wrong, would love to give them as much pain as possible over this. But I don't see how we can do anything. If I start my own email server, I'm probably going to miss important emails and end up in lots of troubleshooting things. I'm wish it wasnt so. The ideas of the original internet was amazing but capitalism can't be reasoned with.

It consumes all until there is nothing left.
