Can’t be purchased standalone. Part of a prebuilt only.

You can search anything on Google and find that it’s a very real and frightening problem. It’s the worlds largest bias-confirming echo chamber of that’s how you choose to use it.

AppleTV + Infuse = zero transcoding. Add that Apple will be allowing VPN on device with the release of tvOS 17 and it’s pretty much the perfect kit if you’re willing to spend the extra dollars.

I really hope you’ve considered how much storage you’re going to need to sustain this.

We've been unseasonably mild her in the mid-Atlantic. We're just getting our first run of 90F/32C+ days this season, whereas we usually see that sometime in June. Seeing what's going on in the rest of the country I consider us to be damn lucky.

We've been getting hammered with rain, though. About 3-4x normal in June.

I’m of the mind that the truth already is noise and has been for a long, long time. AI isn’t introducing anything new, it’s just enabling faster creation of agenda-driven content. Most people already can’t identify the AI generated content that’s been spewing forth in years past. Most people aren’t looking for quality content, they looking for bias-affirming content. The overall quality is irrelevant.

Agreed. It really comes down to what is enough to satisfy most people. Exporting subscriptions is an easy implementation. Saved/favorited posts, slightly less easy but very achievable. Each of these could be safely done as a user initiated export/import.

Once you start getting into any type of ownership type work, votes, comments, etc. then it's starts getting hairy due to integrity concerns. How do we trust that this activity actually belongs to the person claiming it.

It’s not enough to be federated with an instance in order for the content to pour in. Someone on your instance also needs to be subscribed to the individual communities.

I have a bot account that regularly polls the top posts on the five largest instances. If it notices any post from communities that it is not already subscribed to it does so, pulling all the content from that point forward. Even after doing to this for weeks I’m still only pulling about 800 communities and the signal to noise ratio is still good.

RedHat is not going closed source. All the code is still open source. Nobody is getting sued for looking at it.

Which is why I find the whole banning TikTok concept absurd.

It’s picking one easy scapegoat company to rally around, completely ignores the thousands upon thousands of other applications that collect data on us.

It’s not security, it’s security theater. It’s lazy and designed to distract us. It’s to keep us from not asking questions about any company’s practices that might hurt someone politically or financially.

We don’t need to ban TikTok. We need to ban Tik Tok and thousands of others like it. We need to have real conversations and put forth real solutions with regards to privacy, globally. It won’t happen though. Because it’s going to cost somebody money.
